As a cinephile penning my thoughts, I’m thrilled to share that the Blumhouse chiller “Drop” has surpassed its box office target. Directed by Christopher Landon, this edge-of-the-seat suspense-thriller stars Meghann Fahy as a woman named Violet, who finds herself in an unexpected predicament on her first date with Henry (Brandon Sklenar). The twist? An unidentified antagonist transmits drop files to her phone, threatening her son and compelling her to eliminate her date.
The film has garnered largely favorable reviews, boasting a Certified Fresh 84% Rotten Tomatoes score as well as an impressive 80% audience rating. Among the critics, ScreenRant’s very own Mae Abdulbaki bestowed it with an 8 out of 10 score. Here’s a snippet from her “Drop” review:
Intrigued? I certainly was! Catch this gripping tale in theaters now and experience the nail-biting tension for yourself.
Is there something about Drop that appears overly convenient and unbelievable? Indeed. However, these elements are not essential to discuss given how engaging, captivating, and well-paced the movie is. It’s an incredibly enjoyable film that I believe will resonate strongly with audiences. In fact, it offers a cinematic experience that not only excels in the theater but also leaves you eager to rewatch it right away to catch what you might have missed initially. Needless to say, I had a fantastic time watching it.
By this coming Saturday, according to projections, Blumhouse’s movie “Drop” will have earned approximately $950,000 over the weekend in U.S. cinemas, bringing its total domestic earnings to $15.8 million. This figure surpasses the $15 million domestic benchmark set for the film. With an initial budget of $11 million, “Drop” has already earned more than $4 million in profits, although its production cost suggests that it needs to gross around $27.5 million before breaking even.
More to come…
