As a long-time auto enthusiast and collector with a penchant for iconic roadsters, the news of BMW bringing its Skytop concept to life has left me utterly thrilled! I’ve been fortunate enough to witness the evolution of automotive design over the years, and the Skytop, inspired by the legendary Z8, is a masterpiece that truly resonates with my passion for timeless style and power.
BMW has revealed plans to manufacture only 50 units of its stylish open-top car, the Skytop, which was initially showcased as a concept design at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este in 2024. The impressive response it garnered prompted BMW to produce this two-seater for a special group of collectors and car enthusiasts.
According to Adrian van Hooydonk, the head of BMW Group Design, a recent production announcement made at a Milan event underscores BMW’s dedication to crafting unique and limited edition vehicles.
The BMW Skytop boasts a potent 4.4L V8 engine producing 625 horsepower, coupled with an eight-speed Steptronic Sport automatic transmission. This powertrain propels the vehicle to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in roughly 3.3 seconds, thanks to its xDrive all-wheel-drive system that guarantees maximum grip. Its design is reminiscent of BMW’s legendary Z8 roadster, showcasing sleek lines and a distinctive shark-nose front.
Distinctively, Skytop showcases an exterior adorned by a long aluminum strip running from the hood to the back, sleek alloy wheels with detailed fins, and uniquely designed LED headlights developed specifically for it. Inside, the roadster’s cabin exudes luxury with plush leather seats, brogue-inspired details, and an exceptional Bowers & Wilkins Diamond Surround Sound System.
As I’m typing this, all 50 units of the Skytop are already reserved, showcasing the car manufacturer’s recently introduced roadster model’s popularity.
