Bob Vylan Addresses Glastonbury Controversy: “We Are Not for the Death of Jews”

English punk-rap act Bob Vylan has recently released a fresh declaration in response to the controversy surrounding their “death to the IDF” shouts at Glastonbury Festival. They refute accusations of anti-Semitism, maintaining their stance of advocating for a liberated Palestine.

In a recent Instagram post, the duo expressed their opposition to violence and discrimination, stating clearly they are not advocates for harming Jews, Arabs, or any other ethnicity. Instead, they advocate for disarming a brutal military apparatus. This apparatus, as reported, instructs its soldiers to employ excessive force against unarmed civilians seeking aid, causing widespread destruction in Gaza.

Last weekend, Bob Vylan faced substantial backlash due to their “death to the IDF” chants during their performance. Glastonbury organizer Emily Eavis expressed that their statements “definitely exceeded the boundary” and emphasized that there is absolutely no tolerance for antisemitism, hate speech, or incitement to violence at the Glastonbury festival.

Later, UTA decided to part ways with Bob Vylan, and the U.S. State Department rescinded their visas, potentially threatening their upcoming North American tour. On Monday, Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau penned down that “individuals who celebrate violence and intolerance are not deemed suitable visitors for our nation.

The BBC additionally released a statement expressing their apologies for broadcasting Bob Vylan’s Glastonbury performance, emphasizing that the anti-Semitic views expressed by Bob Vylan were completely inappropriate and should not be aired on their channels.

On Tuesday, Bob Vylan expressed that they aren’t the focus of the backlash, asserting instead that they are being singled out for voicing their opinions. They urged their supporters to keep speaking out about this issue as well.

Bob Vylan stated that we serve as a diversion from the main issue at hand. Any penalties we receive will similarly act as distractions. He suggested that the government would prefer us not to question their silence during this horrific event, regarding their lack of action to stop the violence and feed the hungry. The more they focus on Bob Vylan, the less they address their accountability for inaction.
