Warning! This article contains spoilers for The Eternaut.
In Netflix’s latest post-apocalyptic series, one storyline feels strikingly reminiscent of a 69-year-old horror movie, suggesting that this classic could have a successful comeback as a TV remake. As Netflix continues to grow its collection of English shows, it has also been pouring considerable resources into a variety of non-English television series. One such show has recently debuted on the streaming service and garnered significant praise from viewers. Its swift popularity even led Netflix to greenlight another season.
The recently released sci-fi series on Netflix stands out due to its daring departure from the usual post-apocalyptic narrative found in mainstream productions. While some elements of the story could be stronger, it manages to keep viewers engaged and wanting more. Intriguingly, this new series features a subplot that seems to echo a plotline from a 1954 horror movie classic, suggesting that it might be time for a TV reboot of that timeless tale.
After Watching The Eternaut, It Is Hard Not To Imagine An Invasion Of The Body Snatchers TV Reboot
The Eternaut’s Main Story Beat Riffs On The “Body Snatcher” Trope
Initially, Netflix’s The Eternaut appears much like other post-apocalyptic thrillers, with its portrayal of a catastrophic event that obliterates a large portion of the population in a fictional world. The storyline depicts lethal snow falling from above, taking lives as it touches anyone. However, this initial similarity quickly gives way to an intriguing twist on the classic “body snatchers” alien invasion theme, as it unveils that several surviving humans are actually under the control of extraterrestrial beings.
In “The Eternaut,” while it doesn’t offer detailed explanations, there are suggestions that the aliens exert control over humans by implanting mind-controlling devices in their brains, which bears resemblance to the events in “Invasion of the Body Snatchers.” The initial, somewhat vague approach taken in “The Eternaut” season 1 suggests that the classic alien invasion concept in “Invasion of the Body Snatchers” has potential for developing into a comprehensive series.
The original film and certain sequels effectively develop and enhance the initial storyline from Jack Finney’s 1954 science fiction novel “The Body Snatchers.” After viewing “The Eternaut,” it becomes apparent that this narrative could be transformed into a serialized format to delve deeper into its themes of post-war anxiety and fear of technology. Remarkably, despite numerous film adaptations of the Jack Finney novel, plans for another adaptation exploring its science-fiction concepts are already in motion.
Invasion Of The Body Snatchers’ Next Reboot Is Already In Development
Warner Bros Has Been Working On A Remake For Quite Some Time
In 2017, it became known that Warner Bros. was developing another adaptation of “Invasion of the Body Snatchers.” While many specifics about the project are still confidential, screenwriter David Leslie Johnson (known for Orphan and The Conjuring 2) joined the team to write the script. Since then, no recent news has been shared regarding this remake, leaving its fate unclear. However, it’s possible that Warner Bros. could find inspiration from Netflix’s “The Eternaut” adaptation of the original Jack Finney tale and transform it into a complete TV series instead.
