As a devoted follower of the glamorous world of Bollywood, I have been fortunate to witness the extraordinary love story between Boney Kapoor and the legendary Sridevi. Their tale is a testament to how a shared passion for cinematic artistry can ignite an unbreakable bond.
Today, November 11, 2024 marks the birthday of film producer Boney Kapoor, who is well-known for creating some exceptional movies such as Mr. India, No Entry, Wanted, and numerous others. On this special day, let’s reminisce about his romantic journey with the late actress Sridevi, as they collaborated on the film Mr. India, where he went to great lengths to capture her heart and make her dreams come true during their professional partnership.
At the India Today Woman Summit held in 2013, Boney Kapoor confided that he found himself captivated by Sridevi’s screen persona for the very first time when he watched her act in a Tamil movie during the late 1970s.
They didn’t get a chance to meet in person until the production of Mr. India. This movie was directed by Shekhar Kapur and produced by Boney, with Sridevi, Anil Kapoor, and Amrish Puri in the leading roles. For Boney, their first meeting was like a dream come true.
Boney Kapoor reminisced about the time when a few words she spoke haltingly in Hindi and English had a profound impact on him, igniting his desire to learn more about her. He also recalled that the late actress was already a highly paid female star, and the movie Mr. India only served to strengthen her influence within the industry.
He mentioned that the production of Mr. India signified the commencement of his romantic journey with her, and he always put great emphasis on providing Sridevi with whatever she required, wished for, or desired.
In a straightforward manner, the Mili’s director shared that from day one of filming, he prioritized making her feel at ease on set. He went above and beyond to cater to her requests, ensuring she had all she needed and even more. He spared no effort in maintaining a top-notch makeup room for her and providing her with the best costumes available, always staying one step ahead of her needs and wishes.
He reminded himself of how frequently he’d present her with options, saying something like, “If you dislike this, choose this instead; if you dislike this, pick this.” He shared that this pattern persisted for a while, and with each encounter and filming session, he grew increasingly influenced by her.
Instead of directly stating it, he mentioned that during the time when she was shooting for Yash Chopra’s film ‘Chandni’ in Switzerland, he had accompanied her there. He felt that Sridevi might have observed his determination and perhaps acknowledged his sincerity, understanding that his intentions were not merely for a casual relationship.
