As an ardent fan of Anshula Kapoor, I am truly moved by her journey and the strength she has shown throughout her life. Growing up in the shadow of such a prominent family must have been challenging, especially with the public scrutiny that came their way due to her parents’ separation.
Anshula Kapoor is the child of Bollywood producer Boney Kapoor and his initial spouse, Mona Shourie. She has made a mark as an author, champion for body positivity, and businesswoman. Lately, she opened up about how her parents’ divorce during her childhood influenced her subsequent years. Furthermore, she described the criticism and unfavorable remarks directed towards her family values after the split.
Reminiscing about my past, I, Anshula Kapoor, shared some insights during a heartfelt conversation with Hautterfly, delving into the days following my parents’ separation back in 1996. For those of you not acquainted with our family history, my father, Boney Kapoor, tied the knot with Mona in 1983, but their journey together came to an end two decades ago. As their children, Arjun and I, we continued to reside with our beloved mother.
In the ’90s, my admiration for the filmmaker grew more complex when he tied the knot with Sridevi following his separation. It sparked quite a stir, making our family a focal point of discussions. I, Anshula, found myself caught in a whirlwind of diverse opinions and unflattering remarks about our values and upbringing, which undeniably left an impact on me.
She mentioned discussions on family values, her background, and so forth. This prompted her to retreat within herself, as she was attempting to understand and adapt to this fresh, unfamiliar reality.
Previously, during an episode of a show on Discovery Plus, the actor from 2 States admitted that he had put on approximately 150 kg in weight at the age of 16 following his parents’ divorce. He turned to food for comfort during this difficult time. Furthermore, he battled asthma and other health issues as a result.
In spite of her own struggles, she observed the resilience of her mother, Mona Shourie. Kapoor recollected that this included not only their father and mother but also their uncle. Sanjay Kapoor found himself engrossed in his own life. However, her mother took on the role of a ‘lone warrior’, handling her responsibilities and taking care of her children.
The entrepreneur observed, “As we transitioned to our own place, Mom effectively became a one-person multitasking force. She was responsible for nurturing, troubleshooting, providing, and caring for us all at once. In essence, she played the roles of two parents simultaneously, and it felt like she had an extra pair of hands to manage everything.
Back in the day, I was absolutely smitten by Mona Shourie – a TV serial producer whose work left an indelible mark on my heart. Tragically, she took her final bow in 2012, succumbing to multiple organ failure and the relentless battle with cancer. Ironically, just days before her son, Arjun Kapoor, graced our screens for the first time in Ishaqzaade, sharing the limelight with the brilliant Parineeti Chopra.
