As a fervent cinephile who has traversed the cinematic landscape of India for decades, I must admit that the news of Ayushmann Khurrana backing out from Border 2 leaves me with a pang of disappointment, albeit not entirely unexpected. The young actor’s meteoric rise in Bollywood is undeniable, and his knack for choosing unconventional roles has made him a household name.
Initially, I was set to team up with Ayushmann Khurrana in the much-anticipated war drama, Border 2. However, recent reports suggest that he has chosen to step away from the project due to some uncertainties about his role within it. This film is slated to be a significant reunion between Sunny Deol and JP Dutta since our collaboration on 27 Years ago.
Back in June of this year, Sunny Deol officially revealed that he would be directing a sequel to his 1997 film “Border 2”. It was initially planned that Ayushmann Khurrana would also star in the movie, but according to a recent report from Mid-Day, after extensive discussions with the production team of “Border 2”, Khurrana has opted out of the war drama featuring Sunny Deol.
I myself was informed that there had been discussions about me portraying a soldier in the upcoming sequel. Both myself and the production team were eager to work together, but I, being a rising actor, found myself hesitant about fitting into an ensemble dominated by the powerful presence of Sunny, a star who stands tall on his own.
At the same time, rumors were circulating online that popular Punjabi singer Diljit Dosanjh might be part of the main cast as well. However, it was clarified that this is not yet confirmed, indicating that the team behind the project has reportedly approached Dosanjh for a role.
The source expressed his belief, stating that it would be a treat to see Diljit and Sunny together on screen, considering their strong audience base in north India.
In June 2024, it will be 27 years since the iconic movie “Border” was initially released, and enthusiasts were thrilled as actor Sunny Deol officially announced the upcoming release of “Border 2”, the sequel to the original film.
27 years ago, a soldier promised he’d return. Now, fulfilling that promise and saluting Indian soil, he is coming back, Sunny shared in an announcement video on Instagram.
According to a source familiar with the production, the movie producers Bhushan Kumar, JP Dutta, and Nidhi Dutta are planning to release their film on Republic Day, 2026. This is because the film honors the bravery of the Indian Armed Forces, and they believe that January 26, 2026, would be an ideal date for such a celebration.
