As a seasoned gamer who’s been through the console generations like a kid growing up, I can’t help but feel a pang of familiar disappointment upon hearing that Borderlands 4 will only be available on the latest-gen consoles and PC. 2024’s Gamescon commenced with a bang, unveiling a teaser trailer for the highly anticipated Borderlands 4. Created by Gearbox Entertainment and distributed by 2K Games, the brief video offers an ominous and intriguing glimpse while also specifying the platforms on which the game will be available.

Since the creators of Borderlands hinted that the fourth installment could be their most incredible work yet, anticipation has truly skyrocketed among gamers like me. Yet, hearing about the consoles where the game won’t be released might leave some fans feeling a bit let down.

It’s no surprise that gamers who still use older console generations often receive less favorable treatment; in fact, it’s common for major releases like Borderlands 4 in 2025 to demand more advanced PC hardware. However, the specific system requirements for the game haven’t been disclosed yet.

As a longtime fan of the Borderlands series, I find it quite disheartening that the upcoming phase of this beloved game is only accessible to those who own the latest-gen hardware. Having grown up playing the earlier versions on various platforms, I can’t help but feel excluded from the excitement surrounding the release of the new content. With the Borderlands movie just hitting theaters, I had hoped that more people would be drawn into the world and have the opportunity to experience the game in all its glory. Unfortunately, this isn’t the case for many fans who don’t have access to the necessary hardware. It seems like a missed opportunity for both the developers and the gaming community as a whole.
