Which Books Will ‘Bosch: Legacy’ Season 3 Adapt?
Besides the Harry Bosch/Kurt Dockweiler narrative, Season 3 will also delve into plotlines from Michael Connelly’s novels “The Black Ice” (the second book in the Bosch series, published in 1993) and “Desert Star” (the fifth book in the Ballard series, released in 2022). In “The Black Ice”, Harry is called to a murder scene at a motel on Christmas night, where he discovers a narcotics officer dead under suspicious circumstances. The term “Black Ice” refers to a new and dangerous drug that the deceased officer was involved with.
According to Connelly’s website, in Desert Star:
A year has elapsed since LAPD detective Renee Ballard decided to leave the police force due to misogyny, demoralization, and an excessive amount of bureaucratic red tape. However, when the chief of police personally assures her that she can have free rein within the department, Ballard decides to return to duty, abandoning “The Late Show” in order to revitalize the cold case unit at the prestigious Robbery-Homicide Division.
For quite some time, Harry Bosch has been grappling with an unsolved case that persistently haunts him – the brutal murder of an entire family by a ruthless killer who remains at large. Ballard proposes an opportunity: join her team as a volunteer detective in the freshly established Open-Unsolved Unit, and Bosch can chase his elusive ‘white whale’ with the full backing of the LAPD.
The two must put aside old resentments to work together again and close in on a dangerous killer.”

What Happened At the End of Bosch: Legacy Season 2?
In the finale of Season 2 of “Bosch: Legacy” (aired November 2023), viewers were left hanging off a large cliffhanger. The season’s central conflict revolved around Maddie being abducted by Kurt Dockweiler, also known as Screen Cutter – a serial predator notorious for his breaking-and-entering tactics. Struggling to cope with the traumatic incident, Bosch becomes enraged in his pursuit of finding and meting out justice to Dockweiler, which, for Bosch, doesn’t always equate to incarceration.
As you dive into Bosch: Legacy Season 3, it’s crucial to recall the events of the Season 2 finale. Here, we find Maddie discovering a possible truth – Bosch might have intentionally hired someone to assassinate Dockweiler while in prison. If this revelation proves accurate, it could lead Bosch down a path with no return, signifying a significant shift in his moral compass, a development that has been gradually unfolding since the main series.
It’s been a frustrating 15-month wait for fans to find out if Bosch is innocent or guilty. Previously, there was speculation that an inmate named Preston Borders might have been truthful when he insinuated that Bosch had hired him to kill Dockweiler while they were both in prison. However, this mystery may be unraveled in Season 3. Additionally, Honey’s new District Attorney storyline and the introduction of LAPD officer Renee Ballard are also intriguing developments that will likely unfold in future episodes.
