Bosch Star Joins ‘The Equalizer’ Spinoff

For over a decade, Titus Welliver has been synonymous with Michael Connelly’s Harry Bosch in Amazon Prime Video’s long-running “Bosch” series. However, it appears he is ready to delve into another crime drama, as he is now set to join the cast of an unnamed show, which follows Queen Latifah’s lead role.

After hinting at the arrival of two new characters during this season, it has been disclosed that these characters will be portrayed by Welliver and Juani Feliz, who gained fame from “Harlem”.

As per the latest updates, two new actors, Welliver and Feliz, are joining the cast temporarily for Episode 516. Welliver is set to portray Hudson Reed, a previous CIA agent who shares a link with Robin McCall and harbors a secret he’s trying to keep hidden. On the other hand, Feliz will take on the role of Samantha Reed, Hudson’s daughter who possesses martial arts skills, expertise in weapons, and has her own enigmatic history.

In Episode 516 of “The Equalizer,” the characters won’t immediately spin off into a separate series through a conventional backdoor pilot. Instead, their story will first intertwine with that of “The Equalizer” over several episodes. If this new series proves to be popular, it could lead to “The Equalizer” being part of the CBS family alongside shows like “Fire Country,” “NCIS,” and “FBI.” These shows have a history of generating spinoffs, which have continued to expand their franchises.

‘The Equalizer’ Has Been Popular in Many Formats

Since Edward Woodward initially introduced it in 1985, “The Equalizer” gained popularity over four seasons, albeit dividing critical opinions. Critics often voiced concerns about the show’s unrealistic premise, but Woodward’s portrayal as a “charismatic middle-aged figure brimming with power” was what ultimately kept the series afloat.

The last season of the show was broadcasted in 1988, but it didn’t return with new episodes until 2010 when Denzel Washington starred in a film adaptation. So far, he has been part of two sequels, and hinted that there are plans for at least two more movies to come.

From the interval between the second film and third installment, The Equalizer franchise transitioned back to TV with a change in the lead character’s gender. Queen Latifah assumed the role of Robin McCall instead of Robert McCall (previously portrayed by Edward Woodard and Denzel Washington). While the revival received better reviews from critics, scoring 67% for its first season compared to Woodward’s debut rating of 50%, it retained the same criticism about its excessively dramatic writing as its predecessor. However, despite this ongoing concern, the series has managed to last for five seasons, and with a spinoff in development, it appears that The Equalizer will continue to entertain audiences on both large and small screens in the future.
