As an audiophile with decades of experience under my belt, I can’t help but feel a thrill of anticipation at the news of Bose’s latest move. I’ve always admired their reliable headphones and speakers, but the prospect of them owning McIntosh Group, a company known for manufacturing the world’s finest audio devices, is nothing short of exhilarating!
On Tuesday, Bose disclosed its intention to purchase McIntosh Group, the proprietors of premium audio brands McIntosh and Sonus faber. By acquiring these two highly respected labels in the luxury audio sector, consumer electronics giant Bose broadens its reach on a global scale, reaching new heights never seen before in the tech industry.
I’m quite fond of Bose’s dependable headphones and speakers for the home, but it seems not everyone is as acquainted with McIntosh Group’s offerings. As Bose puts it, McIntosh crafts “the world’s premier” audio equipment, ranging from amplifiers, speakers, turntables, and beyond. To give you an idea of the luxurious experience their parent company provides: Sonus faber’s Italian-made Suprema loudspeakers carry a hefty price tag of $750,000 USD, while some McIntosh turntables can be purchased for as much as $12,000 USD.
The press release highlights groundbreaking advancements in car audio technology that the company is now capable of delivering within the auto industry. Notably, Bose has integrated its top-tier audio systems into vehicles from a variety of market brands such as Porsche, Honda, Kia, Fiat, and numerous others. In a recent collaboration, they plan to leverage their 40 years of automotive audio expertise, combined with McIntosh Group’s performance and design heritage, to broaden research efforts and create unique in-car sound experiences that redefine the boundaries of automotive audio. According to Bose, this partnership will help them continue pushing the envelope when it comes to authentic in-vehicle soundscapes.
As Bose continues to provide consumer devices, they’ll simultaneously speed up advancements in future technologies, particularly focusing on improvements in noise cancellation, hearing enhancement, and immersive sound experiences.
