Braun Strowman’s WWE Release Doesn’t Make Sense To Me For A Really Obvious Reason

In the world of wrestling, releases can be difficult yet essential for introducing fresh talent. Refreshing the roster allows new personalities to shine, which requires making room by parting ways with some established figures. While I don’t always concur with WWE’s choices on who gets released, I generally understand the rationale behind their decisions, especially when it comes from Triple H and his team. However, the recent release of Braun Strowman leaves me puzzled.

It’s clear that I hold some of the individuals who were let go in high regard, as I believe they possessed untapped potential. Although I don’t have time to discuss everyone, I want to highlight a few. Dakota Kai demonstrated skill in the ring and charisma on the microphone when given the opportunity. The Party Girls, Kayden and Katana, were particularly entertaining in their tag team performances, reminiscent of the Rockers. Shayna Baszler had several impressive main roster moments. While my choices might have been different, I can appreciate their decisions. There seems to be a common trend among these individuals.

It appeared that these individuals hadn’t yet captured the enthusiasm of the live audience, despite being fairly well-liked on Twitter. Regrettably, when they stepped onto the main stage, there was little evidence of excitement from the crowd. The reality is what it is.

In Dakota Kai’s latest endeavors to claim the Intercontinental Championship, her journey to the ring was largely met with quietude. Shayna has struggled to generate a response since the Ronda Rousey-related events several years ago. Shotzi’s tank garnered some interest occasionally, but once she entered the ring, it was typically a quiet affair. Kayden and Katana began with zero support and often had to earn the audience’s favor during the match itself.

Essentially, the primary purpose of wrestling is to evoke emotions from the audience, yet in 2025’s WWE, while individual moments showcased this ability, it wasn’t a consistent experience across all performers. Moreover, there was little indication that they would reach this level consistently. To clarify, I am not passing judgement on any of these performers regarding their long-term potential. In truth, I believe each one has the capacity to captivate the crowd significantly, but that wasn’t the case in WWE at the time.

Contrary to some assumptions, Braun Strowman was met with immense enthusiasm by crowds in his matches post his first WWE release. His performances, be it circling the ring or removing his attire, always drew a massive response from the audience. His feuds, particularly those against Bronson Reed and Jacob Fatu, were highly appreciated and served to boost these performers’ popularity. In essence, he fulfilled his role perfectly, eliciting a crowd reaction, which I believe is the core purpose of professional wrestling.

It appears that Braun Strowman’s peak performances seem to be in the past. The physical prowess of large wrestlers tends to diminish over time, and it became evident by his movements that his body was starting to fail him. He lacked the agility and energy he once possessed, but he still had the audience on his side. They showed concern when he stepped into the ring, which is not something many performers can claim. Regrettably, this is a situation that few others who have been released from the company can relate to.

I find Strowman’s release perplexing because I don’t have insight into the private discussions taking place. However, it could be that Strowman’s health is more compromised than we might imagine, causing WWE to decide he should no longer wrestle. Perhaps his earnings were too high or there were difficulties with fellow performers or issues with management. As a spectator, his release seems different from the others; Strowman was popular, capable of stirring up excitement among fans and reminding us why we paid for our tickets.

It’s uncertain where Braun Strowman might reappear in the wrestling world, but whenever he does, fans will undoubtedly take notice because of his popularity, which endures. He possesses an aura that sets him apart, and at a point when not every WWE performer can claim the same, his absence will be felt.
