Brendan Fraser Cast as Former President in New D-Day Movie

As a hardcore movie buff and long-time fan of Brendan Fraser, I have witnessed his remarkable journey through the ups and downs of Hollywood. From his early days starring in films like “Dogfight” and “The Mummy,” to the unfortunate downturn of his career that followed, and finally, his incredible resurgence, it’s been a rollercoaster ride for both Fraser and us, his fans.

Award-winning actor Brendan Fraser has been chosen to portray Dwight D. Eisenhower in the upcoming film “Pressure.” This movie is described as a thrilling race-against-time story, recounting the authentic events leading up to the Normandy landings of 1944. Prior to becoming the 34th President of the US, Eisenhower held the position of Supreme Commander of the Allied Expeditionary Force in Europe. In this role, he oversaw the planning and execution of Operation Overlord – the invasion of Normandy that lasted approximately three months and ultimately led to victory for the Allies.

According to Deadline, Fraser is set to join Andrew Scott, who will depict Group Captain James Stagg – the Allies’ Chief Meteorologist pivotal in the Normandy victory by providing Eisenhower with favorable weather reports leading to success. Directed by Anthony Maras, filming for “Pressure” is anticipated to start in September in the UK. Here’s the complete plot summary for the movie.

In the three days prior to D-Day, almost everything was prepared for the invasion, except for one critical factor – the weather in Britain. The meteorological officer of Britain, James Stagg, was put under immense pressure to provide an accurate forecast as the fate of the largest seaborne invasion hinged on it. A wrong prediction could lead to disastrous consequences, while any delay might allow the Germans to become aware of the impending invasion.

As his trusted confidant Captain Kay Summersby remained his only companion in this critical moment, and the memory of a disastrous D-Day rehearsal weighed heavily on him, Supreme Allied Commander Dwight D. Eisenhower faced the immense responsibility of making the final decision. With just a few hours remaining, the outcome of the war and the lives of countless people teetered precariously in the balance.

The Brendan Fraser Renaissance Has Been Amazing So Far

Starting his film career with “Dogfight” in 1991, Fraser then acted in “Encino Man” and “School Ties” in 1992. He became beloved by many moviegoers as they watched him develop on screen. Fraser balanced both comedic and serious roles throughout his career, but his most recognized part during that time was playing the adventurous and endearing Rick O’Connell in “The Mummy,” released in 1999. He reprised this role in “The Mummy Returns” (2001) and “The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor” (2008).

Although Fraser had achieved great success in his acting career, Hollywood’s favor began to wane towards him following a series of box office flops. Consequently, the industry’s blessings were taken back, leaving a significant impact on the actor. In 2018, Fraser disclosed that he was sexually assaulted by Philip Berk of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association in 2003. This traumatic experience, combined with other personal challenges, plunged Fraser into a deep depression from which he struggled to recover.

After taking a break to regain focus in his personal life, Fraser rejoined the film industry in 2019 with a leading role in Steven Soderbergh’s critically acclaimed “No Sudden Move” (2021). His career rejuvenation continued with Darren Aronofsky’s “The Whale” (2022), where he portrayed a morbidly obese gay man seeking reconciliation with his daughter, Sadie Sink. This performance earned Fraser his first Academy Award nomination and win for Best Actor. He then appeared in Martin Scorsese’s “Killers of the Flower Moon” (2023).

Fraser’s impressive comeback doesn’t stop there. Not only does he star in the film “Pressure,” but he also has an upcoming action-comedy on Prime Video titled “Brothers,” set to be released in October. Additionally, a dramedy called “Rental Family,” directed by Hikari, is currently being finished up in post-production for Fraser as well. Stay tuned for updates on “Pressure.”
