Brett Ratner to Direct Melania Trump Documentary for Amazon

Filmmaker Brett Ratner, following allegations of sexual misconduct during the #MeToo era, is now directing a documentary focused on First Lady Melania Trump – his first project since then.

Amazon MGM Studios has agreed to license the film, which will be released later this year.

Currently, the movie is being made, with Trump playing the role of one of its executive producers, alongside Fernando Sulichin, who previously produced Oliver Stone’s film “Snowden” and Sean Penn’s film “Flag Day”. This project is anticipated for release during the first half of 2025, with both a cinematic and streaming debut, as per Amazon’s plans.

Amazon promotes the movie as offering “spectators a never-before-seen, backstage perspective on First Lady Melania Trump.” Additionally, an Amazon representative stated, “We are thrilled to bring this one-of-a-kind tale to the screens of our worldwide audience.

Since 2017, Ratner has been away from Hollywood following allegations of sexual misconduct made by six women, as reported by the Los Angeles Times. His agency dropped him, and he hasn’t produced a film since then. However, in recent months, there have been attempts to revive interest in a fourth Rush Hour movie as a potential comeback project, according to multiple sources who spoke to The Hollywood Reporter in August. In 2017, Ratner denied the allegations of misconduct, and no criminal charges were filed against him.

The news arises at a time when Melania Trump is preparing to re-enter the White House later this month, serving as the First Lady, following her husband Donald Trump’s victory in the November election and securing a second term.

In relation to the Trumps, it’s worth noting that Ratner’s 2011 film “Tower Heist” used exterior shots filmed at Trump properties, and Donald Trump even dropped by the set. As stated in the production notes for the movie, Trump took time off from taping his TV show “The Celebrity Apprentice” to visit the set, checking in on Ratner and the cast a few floors up.
