Brooke Shields’ Daughter Learned of Mom’s Sexual Assault While Watching ‘Pretty Baby’ Doc

As a fan who has followed Brooke Shields’ career and personal life for decades, it is heartwarming to see such a raw and honest portrayal of her journey, especially in her latest documentary. The moments shared between Brooke and her daughters, particularly Grier, are poignant reminders of the complexities of family dynamics and the healing power of open communication.

In simpler terms, Grier Hammond Henchy, Brooke Shields’ youngest child, has shared her experience of discovering her mother’s account of sexual assault in the 2023 documentary titled “Pretty Baby“.

“Grier mentioned to People magazine, during a shared interview with Shields and her elder sibling, Rowan Francis Henchy, that she was delving into the same subjects as the world was, only more intimately and emotionally. She found it unbearable to proceed.”

In the two-segment Hulu documentary, Shields delves into her six-decade journey in acting and confides for the initial time about being sexually assaulted by a prominent Hollywood figure during her early twenties. The individual responsible remains unnamed.

Even though Rowan knew about her mother’s ordeal, Shields confessed that she hadn’t taken the time to properly prepare her youngest child for discussing the delicate topic with the doctor.

The actress clarified, “It was a misunderstanding. I thought I had made it clear that the role was about the objectification of women in our profession. However, I underestimated her perception, assuming she’d appreciate my resilience and our stable life together, rather than focusing on any past struggles.”

According to Shields, she attempted to reassure Grier by saying there was a “happily resolved” situation. However, Grier expressed that she would never feel content or at peace believing that something unfortunate had occurred to her mother.

“The actress mentioned that she regrettably missed the joyful moment. Feeling powerless, she admitted that as mothers, we often stumble and unintentionally make presumptions.”

Shields shares her two daughters with husband Chris Henchy.

Previously, Shields shared with The Hollywood Reporter an intimate conversation that occurred during the film’s closing stages, where she and her daughters were discussing the movie ‘Pretty Baby’, reflecting on her experiences as a young actress in it.

“The actress reminisced, ‘That surprised me greatly.’ What happened wasn’t part of our original scheme, but due to the unexpected emergence of this documentary, my daughters opened up in ways I wouldn’t have anticipated. Hearing their unique perspectives, witnessing them engage with me as women, and discussing both my past and present roles – as a child and as a mother – was deeply moving. It seems that now is the perfect moment for us to have this dialogue.”
