As a gamer with a deep appreciation for music and live performances, Friday night was nothing short of electrifying. I found myself standing amidst the vibrant energy of London’s crowd, witnessing the legendary Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band at an intimate event organized by Disney+. The screening of “Road Diary: Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band” was a mesmerizing journey into the heart of their artistry, their camaraderie, and their unwavering commitment to music.

London got a taste of The Boss on Friday evening.

On a more intimate stage than usual in London on Friday night, Bruce Springsteen talked about the concert documentary “Road Diary: Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band,” which will be released by Disney+ and Hulu on October 25th, during an event they organized.

After watching the documentary, a Q&A panel took place, with Bruce Springsteen (affectionately known as “The Boss”), long-time friend and band member Stevie Van Zandt, director Thom Zimny, producer Jon Landau (also Springsteen’s manager), and the session was skillfully moderated by Edith Bowman, a renowned Scottish radio DJ and television host. This discussion offered further understanding of the film’s content.

If you manage to perfect the art, the music, and the group, each performance should feel like your final moment on Earth,” Springsteen explained as the secret to their enduring success. “This has always been our approach, and we’re committed to continuing it.

Instead, Van Zandt emphasized that a jointly-held vision, as opposed to prioritizing financial gains, was crucial. “From the outset, this was an entirely artistic journey,” he stated.

As they grow older, the theme and topic of mortality have become more prominent in Springsteen and Van Zandt’s music, which was a significant focus during their recent world tour, as depicted in the film. “It’s all about mortality,” said Van Zandt, “but we counteracted that with energy.” “We’re not fading away,” he added. “We’re coming on like a storm!

Asked about his experience watching the documentary, Springsteen jokingly admitted that he dozed off for most of it. However, he later disclosed that performing on stage demands intense concentration. He explained, “The secret is to gaze into the crowd and locate yourself. I look into the audience every night and can see myself reflected in any person.” He added, “It might be a child or anyone. The audience needs to identify with you as well.

Springsteen summarized, “It’s a profound bond and interaction we’ve shared with our audience for over half a century. When I gaze into the crowd and can’t recognize myself, that’s when I know it’s time to return home.

On Friday night, Bob Geldof, filmmaker Gurinder Chadha, as well as actors Roschdy Zem and Viveik Kalra were some of the individuals present.

The movie is being promoted as offering an “extremely detailed perspective” of the band’s preparation for live concerts, and showcases unparalleled backstage access to their 2023-2024 world tour. The film was directed and co-produced by Bruce Springsteen’s longtime collaborator Zimny (from “Springsteen on Broadway”), in collaboration with Springsteen himself, Adrienne Gerard, and Sean Stuart.

The Road Diary offers insights directly from Springsteen, complemented by interviews with his long-standing music partners like guitarist Van Zandt, drummer Max Weinberg, Landau, and musician wife Patti Scialfa.

75-year-old Bruce Springsteen is slated for another cinematic adaptation, with “20th Century” and Disney announcing they secured the rights to the upcoming film titled “Deliver Me From Nowhere“. The feature will be penned and directed by Scott Cooper, who previously worked on “Crazy Heart“, based on Warren Zanes’ 2023 book “Deliver Me from Nowhere: The Making of Bruce Springsteen’s Nebraska“. It is confirmed that Jeremy Allen White, famous for his role in “The Bear“, will portray the iconic figure of Springsteen in the movie.
