Bruce Willis’ 0% Rotten Tomatoes Movie Is Now On Hulu

After reaching the unfortunate conclusion of his acting career, he took on more than 20 direct-to-video films that initially received negative reviews from critics, earning him a special Razzie award category at the time. These movies were later reconsidered following Willis’ dementia diagnosis, and now two of them are available for fans to watch on Hulu.

In 2021 and 2022, the films titled “” and its follow-up, ““, were unveiled. In these movies, Willis portrays Robert Michaels, a retired U.S. intelligence agent who resides in a covert resort detached from the world and his perilous past. However, his peaceful life is disrupted when his son Paul (Jesse Metcalfe) locates him, accompanied by an individual from Robert’s former life. Consequently, they are forced to battle for their lives within the fortified bunker known as the stronghold.

The movie “Fortress” had a very limited theatrical debut, earning only $52,169 at the box office and soon becoming an object of laughter. On Rotten Tomatoes, it received a 20% rating from critics, but audiences gave it a much more positive reception, with a current score of 76%. Interestingly, this is higher than many of Bruce Willis’ major budget films from the past four decades. Despite this, “Fortress” was nominated for a Golden Raspberry Award, like several other movies released by Willis that year. However, this nomination was withdrawn due to a strong wave of backlash.

Bruce Willis Delivered a Quick ‘Fortress’ Sequel

Critics frequently find fault with action movies, preferring instead narratives that focus on a strong plot, well-crafted dialogue, and original, engaging stories over the frequent use of explosions and gunfights. However, it seems many viewers are more interested in watching things explode rather than delving into intricate storylines.

It’s likely due to this reason that the genre consistently produces numerous films annually, and quite a few manage to draw an audience, whether they debut in cinemas or on digital platforms and streaming services. Following closely on its heels was Fortress: Sniper’s Eyes, released a year later, which is a continuation of the story initiated in the first movie. It features Bruce Willis, Linda Hamilton, and Chad Michael Murray reprising their roles, with the latter portraying the antagonist Balzary. Although critics gave the film a 0% rating, audiences appreciated it more, awarding it a 56%, which, while not exceptional, is better than many mainstream films that get wide theatrical releases.

In the United Arab Emirates and Portugal, the film “Fortress: Sniper’s Eye” was shown in a limited release only, but it generated $69,075 during its brief run. While this may not have been a grand affirmation of Bruce Willis’ career, it’s worth noting that he continued to act despite his declining health, which is laudable. There remained a faint hope that the man who brought “Die Hard” to life would still be recognized, and with it, the ongoing discussion about whether it qualifies as a Christmas movie or not.

Fortress and Fortress: Sniper’s Eye are both available now on Hulu.
