Call Me Bae: Ananya Panday admits that her show is 'a mix of Schitt's Creek, Clueless, Aisha, Nancy Drew'; DEETS

As an ardent fan of Ananya Panday, I must say that her journey into the world of entertainment is nothing short of exciting! With Call Me Bae, she has taken a bold step into the OTT space, and I can’t wait to see her shine in this new format.

Recently, Ananya Panday unveiled the trailer for her forthcoming web show titled “Call Me Bae.” At a special occasion, she candidly confessed that the concept behind her show is influenced by numerous female-centric comedy movies, such as Alicia Silverstone’s Clueless and Sonam Kapoor’s Aisha. Moreover, she shared insights about her journey while working on a lengthy television series.

On August 20th, Ananya Panday debuted the trailer for her first OTT series titled “Call Me Bae” in Mumbai. In this upcoming show, she will portray the character of Bae (Bella Chaudhary), who is born into a wealthy family. However, an unexpected twist occurs as she finds herself transitioning to a middle-class lifestyle.

In discussing her comedy-drama series, the actress explained that it blends the style of films she enjoyed during her childhood, which she referred to as “chick-flick” movies. She also noted the influence of the character Poo, who is iconic, stating that she once dressed up as Poo two years ago and has quotes from her on her mirror. The actress mentioned that the show is a fusion of series like Schitt’s Creek, Clueless, Aisha, and Nancy Drew.

Ananya pointed out that she rarely gets to see shows with light, youthful, cheerful, and entertaining themes, even though her character embodies these qualities completely, she stressed that her character is uniquely independent. Furthermore, the actress described her performance in the series as an enjoyable yet demanding part in her acting journey.

She clarified her idea by stating this was her initial attempt at a lengthy series. Using movies as an analogy, she pointed out that films often lack opportunities to establish a background due to limited scenes. Conversely, extended-length shows provide the opportunity for more thorough story development.

Apart from acknowledging the team and the scriptwriters of the series, she confessed that creating the dialogue was enjoyable for her.

The series “Call Me Bae” features stars like Vir Das, Varun Sood, Vihaan Samat, Muskkkaan Jaferi, and others. This production, overseen by Karan Johar, Apoorva Mehta, and Somen Mishra under the company Dharmatic Entertainment Pvt Ltd, will be available for streaming on Amazon Prime Video starting September 6, 2024.
