30 years after the release of Happy Gilmore, featuring Adam Sandler as a unique golf prodigy who used a hockey stick putter, Callaway Golf’s putter division, Odyssey, has brought back this iconic piece of golf equipment. They are also introducing a special edition of golf balls branded with the movie. This release precedes the upcoming sequel, set to premiere on Netflix on July 25.
For those who may have forgotten, Happy Gilmore was an unconventional golfer who had previously been a failed hockey player. He was known for his powerful drives and feisty attitude, but his most distinctive accessory was the hockey stick putter – a gimmick that became his signature weapon. It remains to be seen if this new release is actually functional for play, as its high price tag of $500 USD and novelty construction suggest it’s more of a collector’s item than a performance enhancer. The golf balls included in this release, priced at $60 per dozen, are steeped in nostalgia.
