As a movie enthusiast who’s been following Cameron Diaz’s career since her breakout role in “The Mask,” I can’t help but feel a rush of nostalgia seeing her back in action! It’s been 11 long years, and it feels like we’ve missed an integral part of our cinematic family. The teaser for “Back in Action” is just the right dose of adrenaline to keep us on the edge of our seats till its release in January 2025.
Actress Cameron Diaz returns from an 11-year break in show business with a new Netflix spy movie called “Back in Action” co-starring Jamie Foxx. The streaming service has released the first promotional trailer for this film, which is set to debut at the start of next year.
Two years ago, I got pretty excited when TopMob shared news about Diaz getting back into acting. Foxx had leaked a phone chat between us, with him trying to convince her to come out of retirement, and even managed to bring in Tom Brady to help! The “Back in Action” project was officially announced midway through 2022, and filming kicked off later that year. Now, at long last, the hilarious action flick has finally set a release date.
The movie centers around characters played by Diaz and Foxx, portraying a retired CIA agent duo named Emily and Matt. Having settled in the suburbs, they are drawn back into action, thrilled to revisit their former lives. Foxx is depicted using a flamethrower to torch enemies in the movie’s preview, alongside an impressive ensemble cast that features Kyle Chandler, Glenn Close, Andrew Scott, Jamie Demetriou, McKenna Roberts, and Rylan Jackson. Seth Gordon, who collaborated with Brendan O’Brien on the script, directs this film, titled Back in Action, which marks Diaz’s first project since her retirement in 2014.
Watch the teaser above. Back in Action lands on Netflix on January 17, 2025.
