Cameron Diaz Talks Possible Sequels for The Mask and Charlie’s Angels

One standout film now available on Netflix is titled “Back In Action“. This action-comedy features Cameron Diaz, who last graced the silver screen over a decade ago following her departure from Hollywood. After turning down numerous offers, she made an exception for her own wine production. With her recent return to acting, we might see her in future projects like the upcoming movie with Keanu Reeves and the next installment of Shrek. There’s speculation about whether she might reprise her roles in other popular films such as “The Mask” and “Charlie’s Angels“.

Would Cameron Diaz Be Up For Doing The Mask 2?

During their promotional activities for the film “Back In Action,” now available on Netflix, a reporter asked Cameron Diaz, who was 52 at the time, if she would consider reprising her role as Tina Carlyle following its initial release in 1994, given that Jim Carrey had expressed interest in returning. In her own words:

Oh my god, did he say that?…If Jim’s on board, I’ve been riding those coat tails from day one.

During an interview with Access Hollywood, Diaz expressed surprise upon learning that Jim Carrey might consider reprising his role in another installment of “The Mask.” However, during a recent conversation with ComicBook, Carrey didn’t explicitly confirm this. Instead, he stated that the idea needs to be compelling and it’s not about the money for him. Fans have long been hoping for a sequel to “The Mask,” but if one were ever produced, it would need to include Cameron Diaz in the cast.

And, What About Charlie’s Angels 3?

We’d be thrilled if another installment of the Charlie’s Angels series, starring Cameron Diaz alongside Drew Barrymore and Lucy Liu, were in the works from her career. If the idea of a sequel was presented to the actress, this is how she and Jamie Foxx responded:

Foxx: “That would be insane, I would be throwing my hat in the ring to be…”

Diaz: I was gonna say, we need a Bosley.”

Cameron Diaz starred in two “Charlie’s Angels” films – “Charlie’s Angels” in 2000 and its sequel “Full Throttle” in 2003, and these movies continue to be memorable action-comedies. Although there haven’t been any announcements about a sequel yet, the most recent buzz surrounding the franchise emerged in 2021, when it was revealed that there had been a heated argument between Lucy Liu and Bill Murray on the set of the first film. More recently, Liu stated that she has no regrets for standing up for herself during the disagreement, following allegations that she responded to Murray’s criticism of her acting skills.

Speaking of which, since Murray portrayed Bosley in that particular adaptation of Charlie’s Angels, Cameron Diaz mentioned her Back In Action co-star, who appeared quite thrilled by the prospect. Isn’t it fascinating to imagine if Diaz could reprise one or even both of these roles again?
