Cameron Diaz to Star in Action Comedy ‘Bad Day’ for Netflix (Exclusive)

Cameron Diaz, who recently came back to the acting scene after nearly a decade, continues her comeback with vigor, as seen in the successful Netflix release “Back in Action”.

As a passionate gamer, I’m thrilled to share that my favorite actress is back with the streaming titan! She’s all set to star in a hilarious action-comedy titled “Bad Day,” which will be under the direction of Jake Szymanski. Known for his work on the critically acclaimed comedy series “Jury Duty” and “Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates,” I can’t wait to see what he has in store for us this time!

Beau Bauman, who produced Back in Action, is producing with his Good One Productions.

The story was penned by Laura Solon and revolves around a mother struggling to fulfill one heartfelt pledge for her child amidst the most challenging day she’s ever faced.

The project is being referred to as a humorous reinterpretation of the 1993 drama “Falling Down,” which was directed by Joel Schumacher and featured Michael Douglas portraying a man who reaches his limit while attempting to reach his daughter’s birthday celebration.

Solon and Mark Moran will jointly serve as executive producers for this project. This marks their third collaboration following their previous ventures into comedy, specifically “Office Christmas Party” and “Let it Snow,” which they worked on together. The screenplay for this new project was penned by the scribe, with Bauman offering assistance in its development.

Netflix is moving fast on this one, which will shoot this fall in New York and New Jersey.

From films such as “Something About Mary”, “The Holiday”, “Bad Teacher”, and even the “Shrek” series, Diaz was a highly sought-after leading actress in Hollywood movies. However, she decided to step away from the limelight in 2014. The allure of a substantial paycheck and the opportunity to work alongside her “Annie” co-star Jamie Foxx once more on the Netflix production titled “Back in Action” enticed her return to acting under the former Netflix leadership.

The film, starring a retired spy couple, premiered in January and quickly gained popularity on the streaming service. Now, after only half a year, it’s ranked sixth among Netflix’s most-watched movies ever, according to Nielsen’s data.

This year, “Back in Action” has been the top-viewed original streaming film, racking up a total of 5.26 billion minutes watched, and it ranks as the third most-watched movie across all streaming services.

Diaz is represented by LBI Entertainment and Jackoway Austen, while Diaz’s counterparts, Szymanski and Solon, are respectively represented by UTA, Mosaic, Sloane Offer, Gersh, Independent Talent Group, and Jackoway Austen.
