Gina Carano’s fight with Disney isn’t going away. Nor should it.
In 2021, Disney (often referred to as “The Mouse House”) terminated the contract of Carano following her social media post that drew parallels between current political conditions and the early stages of Nazi Germany, which sparked accusations of antisemitism from critics.
So did Disney brass.
Carano was no longer part of the company’s celebrated “Star Wars” series “The Mandalorian.”
The legal dispute is progressing through the judicial system right now, yet the core essence of the narrative continues to be significant.
Can a production company dismiss an actor due to controversial social media content? What if other staff members post even more provocative messages without consequences?
Is it permissible for a film studio to terminate an actor because of questionable social media activity, and what happens when other team members share more inflammatory posts without repercussions?
A prime example?
It seems odd that Disney chose to part ways with Gina Carano over her controversial posts, while Pedro Pascal’s comments likening Trump supporters to Nazis went unpunished. Notably, Pascal did not receive any backlash from Disney or the broader Hollywood community regarding this specific post.
He remains one of Hollywood’s most in-demand actors.
Currently, there’s a new instance where a celebrity has made an offensive remark, which could also stir up controversy. Known for his progressive humor, Patton Oswalt is not a supporter of President Donald Trump nor his supporters.
The star has been savaging both for some time. That’s hardly a “man bites dog” story.
This week, Oswalt significantly stepped up his speech style. Tom Homan, who oversees border control for the administration, is leading the charge on enforcing illegal immigration. He shared details about his challenging living conditions with Miranda Devine, a New York Post columnist and host of “Pod Force One”.
As a passionate film aficionado, I find myself in a challenging situation at present. My beloved wife is temporarily absent, largely due to the countless hours I’ve been dedicating to my work, yet predominantly because of the alarming death threats that have been directed towards me and my family. She’s currently seeking refuge elsewhere. I make every effort to connect with her as frequently as possible under these trying circumstances, but the relentless threats against us are beyond reprehensible.
Oswalt apparently heard about the death threats and shared his reaction on Bluesky.
“good. i hope it gets so much worse for this rancid pile of polenta.”
In light of the Left’s aggressive response to President Trump’s immigration measures, the implication carries a distinctly unique tone. For instance, just this month, protests and unrest erupted in Los Angeles due to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers apprehending undocumented immigrants.
Cars set ablaze. Cops targeted with bricks. It was ugly.

In simpler terms, the remarks made by Oswalt might be interpreted as encouraging violent actions. Compared to Carano’s actions from 2021, they appear to be much more severe.
Here’s where things get complicated.

It’s possible that Pixar could produce a follow-up to their 2007 hit “Ratatouille.” This movie featured Oswalt as Remy, an intelligent rat who discovered his place in a Parisian kitchen. Both critics and audiences praised the film highly. It grossed over $600 million globally and is often recognized as one of Pixar’s most successful productions.
According to a source from Hollywood, there are early discussions about a follow-up movie, but Pixar hasn’t officially announced it yet. This isn’t surprising as sequels for Pixar often perform well financially, unlike some of their original films. The latest release, “Elio,” had the poorest opening at the box office compared to any other Pixar film so far.
Is there a chance that Disney, having acquired Pixar, might invite Patton Oswalt back to reprise his role as Remy in future productions, given his controversial online behavior? Could they possibly overlook such posts?
Will doing so give Carano’s legal team more ammunition in its legal case?
It’s evident that Oswalt’s remarks won’t lead to any professional repercussions in Hollywood for him. In fact, he might even secure more job opportunities because of it. The entertainment industry tends to be more critical towards conservatives, whereas progressives can often say or do controversial things and return to work the next day without issue.
