Can Switch 2 Finally Give Us a New Star Fox?

On the Nintendo Switch, while it may not be the most powerful gaming system, its popularity among gamers has significantly contributed to the resurgence of some classic franchises. For instance, we’ve seen Metroid with Dread and Prime Remastered, and Pikmin making a comeback as well. Given this momentum, it seems fitting that Star Fox should also receive a revival on this platform, perhaps even in the near future.

We’re eagerly anticipating that the Star Fox series might make a significant comeback with the upcoming Switch 2. Many fans have expressed their desire for its return, and we believe Nintendo is working hard to find an ideal approach.

Previously, Star Fox was featured in a full-fledged game during the Wii U release, Star Fox Zero. Unfortunately,

As a dedicated fan, I can’t hide my excitement when I saw Fox McCloud and his crew gracefully appear in Ubisoft’s Starlink game. Although it didn’t quite take off as expected, the Nintendo Switch version of this game was a smashing success due to these beloved characters. Many of us hoped that this collaboration might pave the way for more games featuring them, but alas, it seems Ubisoft has other plans.

From past interviews, it appears that Nintendo aims to breathe new life into this famous character, avoiding repetition since Zero was a reboot and fell short of garnering attention. As a gaming-centric company, we anticipate they’ll incorporate aspects from the GameCube games while keeping continuity references to a minimum.

If there are intentions to resurrect Star Fox, we believe that certain aspects from Star Fox: Assault on GameCube should be incorporated. This game introduced an innovative twist by featuring segments where Fox McCloud exits his Arwing and engages enemies with his gun. Although these tank controls felt unusual at the time, if they were refined using third-person shooter controls, it could prove to be a massive success.

Speaking of that, add Star Fox: Assault to the GameCube NSO lineup, and people will eat that up.

It’s important to avoid turning the F-Zero franchise into another one of those seemingly endless Nintendo Switch Online series games. While F-Zero 99 is appreciated for its contribution to the franchise, it won’t serve as the blueprint for a new F-Zero game. Rehashing the Fox McCloud character in such a way could be grating, regardless of the enthusiasm from fans.

It’s high time for Star Fox to make a comeback, and we can appreciate Nintendo’s cautious approach. Perhaps the team will appear on the Switch 2, or perhaps we’ll only get remakes of GameCube games, but fans are eagerly waiting for any news from this beloved series.
