As a seasoned gamer with a hearty appetite for epic sagas and intricate gameplay mechanics, I can confidently say that God of War Ragnarok has surpassed my expectations in every way possible. Having traversed the realms alongside Kratos since 2018, I never thought we would be given the opportunity to step into Atreus’ bow-wielding boots. But alas, Santa Monica Studio heard our collective prayers and granted us this long-awaited wish!
God of War Ragnarok significantly surpasses the 2018 edition, broadening its environments, enhancing Kratos’ abilities, and deepening its character development – particularly for Atreus.
As a seasoned gamer who’s grown accustomed to aiding Kratos in battle, I often find myself pondering if we’ll ever have the chance to take on the role of the demi-god archer himself – Atreus. So, let’s delve into the question: Will players get to play as Atreus in God of War Ragnarok?
Can you play as Atreus?
Surely a pleasant surprise to many fans, yes, you can play as Atreus in God of War Ragnarok.
From the quest titled “Reunited Old Friends“, there are instances where you will take charge of Atreus during specific missions as the narrative unfolds.
This does mean that you can’t simply switch between Kratos and Atreus on the fly.
When you take on the role of Atreus, you’ll gain access to a distinct set of special abilities that are exclusively his, and there are additional skills for you to discover.
Alongside skills you may recall from the 2018 release of God of War, Atreus possesses additional features such as a spectral shield, archery capabilities that resemble Kratos’ Runic attacks, and personalized customization through armor adornments.
In his skill development, Atreus gains abilities beyond the basics, with options in Instinct, Archery, and Aggression. These capabilities can be accessed by accumulating experience points from combat encounters.
