Candace Owens is currently facing a lawsuit for defamation, filed by French President Emmanuel Macron and his wife Brigitte, due to a lengthy campaign where she made claims that the First Lady of France is biologically male. This marks the second instance within two months where a political commentator on the right-wing side has been sued over accusations of spreading false information.
Last year, Owens boldly declared that she was ready to risk her entire professional standing on the belief that Brigitte Macron is actually a man. Since then, she has used this statement to boost her online presence, even though there’s evidence contradicting her assertion. This is what a lawsuit filed in Delaware state court on Wednesday claims.
After Gov. Gavin Newsom filed a lawsuit against Fox News in June, it was due to accusations of defamation regarding their coverage of his phone call with President Trump. He stated that they manipulated the broadcast to imply he lied when he mentioned Trump didn’t contact him about mobilizing National Guard troops during the L.A. protests.
Following a request for retraction from the Macrons, Owen launched an eight-episode podcast titled “Journey to Brigette.” This series reinforced the allegations, according to the lawsuit. Among these claims were that Brigitte Macron was originally born male, had stolen someone else’s identity before transitioning, and that she and her husband are biologically related, thereby implying incest.
Since Ms. Owens consistently stood by the untruths in response to our lawyers’ multiple requests for a retraction, we found that taking the issue to court was the last resort for resolution,” stated the Macrons. “The defamatory campaign by Ms. Owens was clearly intended to distress us and our loved ones, as well as to generate attention and notoriety. We offered her chances to abandon these accusations, but she chose not to.
As a gamer, I’d rephrase it like this: “I, as a legal representative for the Clare Locke firm, which has been working with the Macrons in their case against Fox, can confidently say that we’ve got a solid defamation claim here. You see, Ms. Owens spread unfounded lies, initially peddled by a self-styled psychic and journalist, to create maximum damage for the Macrons, boost her own publicity, and pad her wallet.
Following her time at the Daily Wire, Owens started a podcast. She now boasts a substantial online fanbase, counting about 7 million followers on platform X and 4.5 million subscribers on YouTube. Brigitte Macron, who has won two defamation lawsuits in France against individuals making similar allegations, alleges that she spreads false information and advocates various conspiracy theories. In the past few months, Owens has supported Justin Baldoni during his It Ends With Us court case with Blake Lively and attempted to clear Harvey Weinstein’s name.
