Cannes 2025: Know about Indian films making it big at prestigious film festival; Homebound to Tanvi The Great

In 2025, the 78th edition of the Cannes Film Festival is scheduled from May 13 to May 24. Notable Bollywood personalities are expected to shine on the international stage during this time, and a select group of Indian movies will have their premieres at the festival as well.

1. Homebound

The movie “Homebound,” starring Janhvi Kapoor and Ishaan Khatter, is set to appear at the Cannes Film Festival 2025. Produced by Karan Johar and directed by Neeraj Ghaywan, this will be Ghaywan’s second feature film, with Vishal Jethwa also featured. Additionally, Martin Scorsese, a renowned Hollywood director, has joined the production as executive producer. The film has been chosen for screening in the Un Certain Regard section.

Delighted to share some exciting updates! Kapoor expressed her gratitude on Instagram saying, “I’m speechless with gratitude. Thank you, Martin Scorsese (@martinscorsese_), for your wise guidance on HOMEBOUND. Your expert touch is truly that of a great maestro. Your backing means the universe to us.

2. Aranyer Din Ratri

As an ardent fan, I can hardly contain my excitement! One of my all-time favorites, Aranyer Din Ratri, an Indian timeless masterpiece, has just been beautifully restored and it’s about to make a grand comeback! The Film Heritage Foundation recently announced that the world premiere of this iconic Satyajit Ray work will take place at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival in 2025. And get this – the legendary Sharmila Tagore, who graced our screens as the lead actress back in 1970, is set to attend the event herself! This is truly a dream come true for me and fellow Ray enthusiasts worldwide!

Additionally, Wes Anderson, actress Simi Garewal, Margaret Bodde (Executive Director of The Film Foundation), the family of producer Purnima Dutta, as well as Peter Becker and Fumiko Takagi, will all be involved in presenting the film’s premiere with her.

3. Tanvi The Great

As a seasoned lifestyle expert, I am thrilled to share that my forthcoming directorial project, “Tanvi: The Great,” is poised for its grand debut at the illustrious Cannes Film Festival 2025’s Marché du Film (Cannes Film Market). This momentous occasion marks a significant milestone in my professional journey.

On Instagram, they announced that Anupam Kher’s directorial debut, “Tanvi The Great,” will make its world premiere. This remarkable film is set to be shown for the first time at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival (MDF_Cannes). This isn’t just a moment; it marks the beginning of an international journey for this production.

4. A Doll Made Up Of Clay

As a lifestyle connoisseur, I am thrilled to share that a clay-made doll, meticulously crafted by the talented students of Kolkata’s Satyajit Ray Film & Television Institute (SRFTI), is making its way to the illustrious 78th Festival De Cannes in 2025. This short film, bearing the title “The Clay Doll,” has been selected for the revered La Cinef section, a testament to its quality and potential.

Hailing from India, this moving tale has been penned and directed by Kokob Gebrehweria Tesfay, an Ethiopian student at SRFTI, showcasing the institute’s global reach and diverse talent pool. The production duties have been entrusted to Sahil Manoj Ingle, while Uma Kumari serves as the film’s executive producer.

This cinematic journey promises to be an unforgettable experience, blending cultures, traditions, and the raw emotion of human connection in a way that only the silver screen can capture. I eagerly await its premiere at the Festival De Cannes 2025.
