Cannes: Sally Hawkins, Matthew Broderick, Martin Freeman Join Simon Bird’s ‘I’m Not Here’

Actor Matthew Broderick, along with Sally Hawkins and Martin Freeman, have joined the cast of “Pretend I’m Not Here,” a new comedy directed by BAFTA-winning filmmaker Simon Bird, best known for his work on “The Inbetweeners.” Cornerstone will begin global sales for this film at the Cannes market coming up next month. Meanwhile, CAA Media Finance is responsible for handling sales within the U.S. territory.

Following the narrative structure of Hans Keilson’s novella, “Comedy in a Minor Key“, the story “Pretend I’m Not Here” presents an everyday Dutch couple who secretly shelter a Jewish perfume salesman during the German occupation of the Netherlands. Over time, the emotional and practical difficulties that arise from sharing living quarters with an unknown individual subtly alter the relationships within this small group in unforeseen ways.

In Visible Absence is a joint production between Parkville Pictures and Lemming Film, backed by BBC Film, with Cecilia Frugiuele and Olivier Kaempfer (known for Polite Society and The Miseducation of Cameron Post) serving as producers. Filming is set to commence towards the end of this year in both the United Kingdom and the Netherlands.

Broderick is managed by CAA, Eric Kranzler at Entertainment 360, and lawyer Barry Tyerman. Meanwhile, Hawkins is under CAA’s management and lawyer Jodi Peikoff. Freeman has CAA as his agency, Modern Collective in the UK, lawyers Felker Toczek Suddleson McGinnis Ryan LLP, and Premier PR on board.
