Capcom Finally Reveals Elena Trailer; Releasing Alongside Switch 2

Following several exciting months of waiting, Capcom has officially showcased a sneak peek of Elena, who will be the last downloadable content character for Street Fighter 6 this season. Additionally, they announced her launch date: June 5, which coincides with the Nintendo Switch 2‘s release day.

As a dedicated gamer, I must admit that the trailer didn’t quite live up to expectations when it came to showcasing gameplay. However, fear not fellow fans! If you take a peek at her World Tour introduction cutscene, you can catch glimpses of our new Kenyan fighter in action. It appears she’s still got most of her signature capoeira moves, but due to the brief nature of the footage, we’re left yearning for more specific details.

It appears that the wait for Elena has felt eternal, given that the last DLC, Mai Shiranui, was released on February 5, over two months ago. The announcement that Elena will be available from June 5 means a gap of four months without any new characters in an otherwise quiet year with no news about character outfits or updates to the metagame. This prolonged silence has led to growing impatience among players, as throw loops dominate the current game state.

It seems unlikely that Season 3 will begin past June, extending the duration of our wait for significant updates. However, if you’re a fan of the Switch 2, you can look forward to playing an improved version of the game featuring all DLC characters. As of now, these characters include:

  • Akuma
  • Rashid
  • Ed
  • A.K.I
  • M. Bison
  • Terry Bogard
  • Mai Shiranui
  • Elena

Additionally, the new edition of the game for the Switch 2 includes two exclusive moves specifically designed for Nintendo’s versatile console, leveraging motion controls to manipulate character actions. It’s also worth noting that figures representing Luke, Jamie, and Kimberly will soon be available as amiibos.

Although the journey may remain challenging, it’s comforting to know we now have a definite release date. I fervently hope they develop Elena with season 3 in mind, ensuring she doesn’t become just another character overly reliant on generic moves like Drive Rush in Street Fighter 6, which has made top-tier characters powerful for the past two years and beyond.
