As a lifelong Marvel fanatic who has spent countless hours immersed in the rich tapestry of the MCU, I must say that the upcoming “Captain America: Brave New World” promises to be an exhilarating ride. The prospect of Liv Tyler’s return as Betty Ross and Harrison Ford’s transformation into Red Hulk has me buzzing with anticipation. However, the looming battle between our new Captain America and this colossal foe is a cause for concern.
In the upcoming Marvel movie “Captain America: Brave New World,” released in February, the spotlight was primarily on Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson as he assumed the Captain America role following “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.” However, this film is also delving deep into the Hulk narrative. Notably, Liv Tyler reprises her role as Betty Ross, Tim Blake Nelson portrays Samuel Sterns, aka The Leader, as the main antagonist, and Harrison Ford steps in as Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross, replacing the late William Hurt. Moreover, Ford is set to transform into Red Hulk. A question arises: How can Sam, who doesn’t have the Super Soldier Serum, confront such a formidable adversary? The answer to this intriguing dilemma will be revealed.
Although the details surrounding how Ross, who’s set to become the U.S. President by 2025 as depicted in ‘Brave New World’, remain unclear at this point, producer Nate Moore admitted that devising the battle between Red Hulk and the new Captain America posed a significant challenge. Dan Cox, the visual effects supervisor from Weta, noted that if Sam sustains a blow, his head might be knocked off. Consequently, our leading character will be equipped with a vibranium-infused wing suit from Wakanda, but Moore told EW that this gear will only provide limited protection during the confrontation.
I use ‘somewhat’ because it’s Red Hulk we’re dealing with. How are you planning on handling this situation? We make sure the movie feels authentic, so equipping Sam for survival isn’t the same as equipping him for success.
In addition, the latest trailer for “Captain America: Brave New World” suggests that President Ross is not voluntarily turning into Red Hulk, but is being compelled to transform against his will. This transformation seems to be orchestrated by The Leader, which means Sam Wilson must find a way to subdue the enhanced Ross without causing him harm. Given that even Smart Hulk finds this task challenging, it’s safe to say that Sam will face a formidable battle in achieving victory.
It seems plausible that, similar to comic book portrayals, the angrier Harrison Ford’s Red Hulk becomes, the more heat he emits, unlike the Hulk who gains strength. In this scenario, it would be less effective for Captain America to engage in a physical confrontation with brute force, as it may lead to defeat. Instead, Captain America could maneuver around and dodge Red Hulk’s attacks until his adversary succumbs to heat exhaustion and weakens. Ideally, this would trigger Ross’s transformation back to normal and prevent him from being trapped in the massive form.
In the film “Captain America: Brave New World,” other significant characters make an appearance. These include Danny Ramirez’s character, Joaquin Torres, who takes on the role of the Falcon; Shira Haas portrays Ruth Bat-Seraph, a comic book character adaptation loosely based on Sabra; Giancarlo Esposito plays Seth Voelker, also known as Sidewinder; and Carl Lumbly appears as Isaiah Bradley. Julius Noah Onah is the director of “Captain America 4,” with Peter Glanz and Matthew Orton contributing to the screenplay. This movie serves as the second-to-last installment in the MCU’s Phase Five, with “Thunderbolts” concluding the saga a few months later.
Before “Captain America: Brave New World” premieres in theaters on Valentine’s Day, don’t forget to get up-to-date with Sam Wilson’s past Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) exploits. You can easily do this by streaming his movies in sequence, along with “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier,” using your Disney+ subscription.
