In its early screenings on Thursday, Captain America: Brave New World earned $12 million at the North American box office. Marvel Studios is aiming to revitalize the series by introducing a completely fresh ensemble, with the hope of hitting a powerful punch for Marvel Studios.
The movie will kick off the year with a box office collection of more than $90 million during the Valentine’s Day/President’s Day weekend, making it one of the highest-grossing films for this holiday and in line with projected earnings. This weekend is also notable as it was when the first Deadpool and Black Panther, along with Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania, were released. In 2023, these movies debuted to $120 million over the three-day President’s Day weekend following a preview of $17.5 million.
Over a span of three days, it’s projected that Brave New World will rake in over $80 million. Its preview earnings are almost matching up with movies like Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Guardians of the Galaxy, and the first Ant-Man and the Wasp (Quantumania made $17.5 million during previews).
Back in my gaming world, this blockbuster game is dropping globally, hitting markets from China to Japan, South Korea, and beyond. It’s aiming to rake in a cool $100 million!
Despite some harsh reviews from critics, who’ve given the film a 52% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, audiences seem to have a more favorable opinion. In fact, the movie has an impressive 79% score among the audience.
After experiencing a rough patch and needing to reconsider their approach, Marvel found itself in a much more favorable position following the incredible successes of Deadpool and Wolverine movies, which broke records as the highest-grossing R-rated films ever made, earning over $1.3 billion worldwide in the summer of 2024. The studio is optimistic about the potential impact of Captain America, a film that encountered various obstacles on its journey to the big screen.
In the latest installment of Captain America, Anthony Mackie steps into the role previously held by Chris Evans as Sam Wilson becomes the new Captain America. This movie has a production budget of approximately $180 million, excluding marketing costs, which is lower than many other Marvel films. Moreover, unlike other Marvel productions, this film avoids elements of science fiction and the multiverse. As described by Kevin Feige, Marvel’s head honcho, this film is more grounded in reality, sharing similarities with Captain America: The Winter Soldier from 2014, which starred Evans and introduced Mackie to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In simpler terms, this movie does not delve into the multiverse.
Under the guidance of director Julius Onah, Brave New World features Harrison Ford as the newly elected U.S. President Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross. This powerful figure aims to recruit Captain America for an official military role. However, prior to making a decision, Wilson discovers a sinister worldwide conspiracy that eventually leads him into conflict with Ross, who undergoes an unexpected transformation into the Red Hulk.
Danny Ramirez is among the cast members, taking on the role of Joaquin Torres/Falcon, alongside Liv Tyler, Tim Blake Nelson, and Rosa Salazar.
The film “Captain America: Brave New World” officially premieres in the U.S. on Valentine’s Day, competing with Studio Canal’s latest “Paddington” release (Columbia Pictures/Sony will handle domestic distribution for this third installment). This highly-acclaimed movie made $600,000 during previews and is projected to earn between $15 million and $17 million domestically. Internationally, it has already garnered $104.0 million, with $19 million coming from markets distributed by Sony.
In Peru, the movie titled “Paddington,” costing $90 million, was entirely produced and funded by StudioCanal. Interestingly, this same studio is a collaborator on the fourth and final film in the “Bridget Jones” series, titled “Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy.” This project, which has been highly anticipated, stars Renée Zellweger. Universal and Working Title are also involved in its production.
Bridget Jones will be exclusively streaming on Universal’s service Peacock within the U.S, as a special treat for existing subscribers and an enticement to attract new ones. It also has plans for a theatrical release internationally, particularly in the UK and Australia, where it is anticipated to generate substantial revenue.
