As a seasoned gamer and collector of unique items that blend function with style, this collaboration between Carhartt WIP and Nychair X has piqued my interest significantly. Having spent countless hours hunched over consoles or battling it out at LAN parties, I’ve come to appreciate the importance of comfort, especially when it comes to seating.
Collaboratively, iconic streetwear label Carhartt WIP and esteemed Japanese furniture brand Nychair X have unveiled a foldable chair and matching ottoman set. This innovative duo is crafted in the traditional Hamilton Brown shade of Carhartt WIP, replicating the original design concept initially brought to life by Takeshi Nii, a renowned Japanese designer, back in 1970.
As described by Nychair X, the initial design of their chair is inspired by a popular curry rice dish, offering a familiar and appealing aesthetic. For their collaboration with Carhartt WIP, they’ve introduced a colorway that evokes nostalgia, with a tan brown tone similar to classic Carhartt WIP workwear items. However, the chair itself is crafted from Kurashiki sailcloth canvas, a material commonly used by Nychair X in their products. This foldable chair and accompanying ottoman rest on intersecting stainless steel legs and boast two straight wooden armrests. Constructed for comfort, the chair is lightweight and collapsible, with an angled backrest that sits close to the ground. Nychair X explains that the set takes up minimal floor space, similar to the area of a dining table, and its sleek design provides a cozy relaxation spot without consuming much room.
Carhartt WIP’s branding is evident on their items, and this collaboration is one of only a handful of partnerships they have undertaken with a furniture company since their establishment in 1994. Now, you can find the chair and ottoman from this collection online, priced between $458 to $788 USD.
