Carnan and Copacabana Palace Launch New Streetwear Collection, “If It Wasn’t For You, Rio”

As a long-time admirer of Brazilian culture and streetwear, I must say that the collaboration between Carnan and Copacabana Palace is nothing short of breathtaking. Having visited Rio de Janeiro numerous times, I’ve always been captivated by its vibrant energy and the rich history that oozes from every corner. This collection, “If Wasn’t For You, Rio,” truly encapsulates the essence of the city in a way that resonates deeply with me.

As a gamer, I’m all about style and sophistication, much like Carnan, which is renowned for its Brazilian streetwear flair. They recently teamed up with the iconic Copacabana Palace, a Belmond Hotel, marking a collaboration steeped in elegance and class. Last year, this legendary hotel celebrated its centennial, and to commemorate such a significant milestone, Carnan unveiled an exclusive collection titled “If It Weren’t for You, Rio.” This line pays homage to the countless memorable moments and encounters that this stunning city has offered over the past 100 years.

Established in Rio de Janeiro in 2018 by Paulo Henrique Carneiro and Breno Fernandes, Carnan emerged with a vision to make fashion an authentic expression of one’s personality. Inspired by the relaxed, stylish vibe of Brazilian streetwear, the brand crafted unique shirts, pants, jackets, caps, and bags that celebrate the beauty of Copacabana Palace and Rio de Janeiro cityscapes.

Just like Carnan, which combines global cultures and influences in its creations to offer fresh viewpoints, Copa is dedicated to respecting history while sparking innovation, consistently introducing rejuvenation and contemporary elements into their projects,” asserts Ulisses Marreiros, the hotel’s general manager.

Established to the public in 1923, during the lively golden era of the Copacabana district, the hotel was constructed as a Brazilian emblem of opulence and refinement by the sea. Boasting an assortment of architectural styles, Brazilian marble, and Art Deco decorations, its structure stands out as a precious gem on the renowned Avenida Atlântica. This coastal avenue is the city’s most famous stretch and has played host to celebrities such as Brigitte Bardot, Princess Diana, The Rolling Stones, Bob Marley, Madonna, and Nelson Mandela. For over a century, Copacabana Palace has been the setting for unforgettable moments, extraordinary events, and grand festivities.

In their collaboration titled “The ‘If Not For You, Rio’,” Paulo and Breno highlight various architectural nods and symbols from the hotel, mirroring its over-a-century-long history. To spark creativity, they delved deep into the Copa’s past, made numerous visits, and conversed extensively with employees. The intricacies of each element – from hand-painted textures to the palpable atmosphere – have been skillfully woven into this select collection, capturing the essence of this historic location.

Paulo Carneiro expresses that Rio de Janeiro, a city filled with significant encounters and tales that have molded our identity, is the inspiration behind this collection. It’s a token of appreciation for the city that opened its arms to us, providing the opportunity to bring our vision to life. The partnership between Carnan and Copacabana Palace, an iconic symbol of our metropolis, mirrors the gratitude we both hold towards Rio de Janeiro and all it has bestowed upon us.

This initiative also intends to aid the social environment of the nearby towns adjacent to Copa. By incorporating Solar Meninos de Luz, an institution boasting over 4 decades of service, the project will allocate 20% of its earnings from collaborative merchandise sales to this organization. Solar Meninos de Luz is a charitable group that focuses on providing education, culture, sports, and essential healthcare for approximately 430 children residing in the Pavão-Pavãozinho and Cantagalo communities within Rio de Janeiro’s Southern region.

You can find the Carnan x Copacabana Palace collection on Carnan’s official website or at the Copacabana Palace store.
