The Prime Video series based on Stephen King’s Carrie has filled out its core cast.
Summer Howell, known for her roles in “Cult of Chucky” and “Crashing Through the Snow” by Hallmark, will take on the lead role in an upcoming drama. She portrays a teenager who’s just discovered her newfound telekinetic powers. Samantha Sloyan, famous from “The Pitt”, will be seen alongside Howell as Margaret White, a character known as Carrie’s domineering mother. Alison Thornton, Thalia Dudek, Siena Agudong, Amber Midthunder, Josie Totah, Arthur Conti, Joel Oulette and Matthew Lillard have also been added to the cast for this project.
Amazon Prime Video commissioned the series in April, with Mike Flanagan, known for “Doctor Sleep” and “The Haunting”, assigned as both writer and executive producer. Previously, Flanagan has adapted numerous works by Stephen King; he penned the screenplay for “Doctor Sleep”, as well as for “The Life of Chuck” and “Gerald’s Game” (working alongside Jeff Howard on the latter) and directed all three movies.
Amazon’s Prime Video has characterized the upcoming series, which has been in production since late 2024, as a “courageous and contemporary retelling” of Stephen King’s tale.
Sloyan and Flanagan often work together: She’s been featured in the movie “Gerald’s Game” and Flanagan’s series which include “The Fall of the House of Usher”, “The Midnight Club”, “Midnight Mass” and “The Haunting of Hill House”.
The television series “Carrie” is derived from Stephen King’s debut novel, initially published in 1974 and subsequently adapted multiple times, with Brian De Palma’s 1976 film being the most well-known, featuring Sissy Spacek and Piper Laurie. Mike Flanagan and Trevor Macy of Intrepid Pictures are executive producing this series for Prime Video. Amazon Studios (MGM), where both Flanagan and Macy have ongoing contracts, are responsible for its production.
In the upcoming series “School Spirits,” Thornton takes on the role of Chris Hargensen. Dudek is cast as Emaline in the same series. Agudong plays Sue Snell, while Midthunder assumes the character of Miss Desjardin. Totah will portray Tina, and Conti takes on the role of Billy. Oulette is set to play Tommy, and Lillard will act as Principal Grayle in the show.
