As a long-time fan of daytime dramas, I am absolutely thrilled about CBS‘s new series, “Beyond the Gates”. Having grown up watching shows like “As the World Turns” and “One Life to Live”, it’s heartening to see a new daytime drama that not only promises juicy secrets and scandals but also centers on Black characters.
CBS is beginning to populate the world Beyond the Gates.
Actresses Tamara Tunie, Daphnee Duplaix, and Karla Mosley will star as the main characters in the upcoming soap opera titled “Beyond the Gates,” which is set to debut early in 2025. This groundbreaking series will be the first daytime drama focused on Black characters since NBC’s “Generations” in 1989, and it will also mark the first hour-long show of its kind.
Actors Tunie, Duplaix, and Mosley, each with a rich background in daytime dramas, are set to portray members of the Dupree family, the central characters who are depicted as a powerful and prestigious multi-generational family embodying the essence of Black nobility. Tunie (known for Law & Order: SVU and As the World Turns) will take on the role of Anita Dupree, once a renowned singer now married to a retired senator, who maintains a fierce spirit rooted in her upbringing in Chicago.
In this upcoming series, Duplaix, known for roles in ‘One Life to Live’ and ‘Passions’, will portray Dr. Nicole Dupree Richardson, one of Anita’s two daughters. She is a philanthropist and psychiatrist who appears to have a flawless life on the surface. On the other hand, Mosley, famed from ‘The Bold and the Beautiful’, takes on the role of Dani Dupree, Nicole’s sister. Dani used to be a model but later became a momager, sacrificing her career for love.
The series, titled “Beyond the Gates“, is based in a prosperous African American suburb of Washington D.C., renowned across the nation. As suggested by the show’s synopsis, it portrays an elite gated community with elegant tree-lined streets and opulent mansions. However, beneath the immaculate facade and beautifully maintained gardens lie juicy secrets and scandals just waiting to be exposed. The neighbors on either side of these gates are intrigued observers. This is where our characters reside, interact, work, and enjoy life – some with more finesse than others. Here, we find both those who have achieved success and those still striving for it, all trying to maneuver through life in various ways.
The TV series is produced by CBS Studios/NAACP Venture, which is headed by Sheila Ducksworth, in collaboration with P&G Studios. Michele Val Jean has created the show titled “Beyond the Gates” and will serve as its executive producer. Alongside Ducksworth, other executives producing the series include Robert Guza Jr., Julie Carruthers, Leon Russell, Derrick Johnson, Kimberly Doebereiner, and Anna Saalfeld.
