CBS’ FBI Just Found a New Partner That’s Got Me Hooked

Warning: The following discussion contains plot points from Episode 16 of FBI Season 7, titled ‘Covered.’ This episode will be accessible for streaming the day after with a Paramount+ membership.

On Tuesday evenings, CBS has a successful mix with the crime drama “FBI”, predominantly following procedural aspects, yet maintaining an ongoing narrative that began in Season 7’s premiere as the team adapts to life without Tiff. This transition seems particularly challenging for Scola, and John Boyd’s character expresses his character’s requirements for a new partner. The 2025 TV schedule has now brought Emily Alabi from “S.W.A.T.” into potential long-term team membership, surprising me as to what it took for Agent Dani Rhodes to win my approval.

Dani’s introduction to the team wasn’t the most seamless, as she was angry at Jubal for removing her from a covert operation without a valid explanation, or so it seemed to her. However, once Isobel clarified that Dani’s file was among several leaked FBI documents, she was willing to collaborate with Scola and the team, despite her usual preference for working independently.

Initially, Tiff Wallace didn’t blend seamlessly into the team like they did when Katherine Renee Kane was still a member, and some of her actions were a bit too daring for Scola’s comfort. However, once they discovered that Maggie’s confidential files had been exposed while she was working undercover with an eco-terrorist organization, the pressure was intense. Under these high stakes, Tiff’s assistance proved to be invaluable.

Emily Alabi’s persona has proven to be a suitable match, and it doesn’t seem like she’ll be departing anytime soon after joining. Unlike Lisette Olivera who left before making her debut, causing little attachment as Agent Syd Ortiz, there’s no reason for me not to grow fond of Alabi.

Initially, I found Dani Rhodes acceptable during the first majority of the episode, but it was her last conversation with Isobel that truly convinced me she should stay. When Isobel mentioned that many agents prefer less action after being shot thrice and resolving 21 cases over two years, Dani’s retort was what sealed the deal for me.

When working undercover, I must rely solely on myself. However, when out in the field, I often discover that the strength of a team lies in its weakest member. But today, surprisingly, there was no one among you who showed signs of weakness.

It appeared Isobel was content with the feelings expressed, and extended an invitation for Dani to stay longer since their bond could potentially grow even stronger. Under certain circumstances, Dani would have to continue operating undercover, but if she chose, she could consider them as a place of belonging. In response, Dani indicated that she’d be willing to trust them, if they were prepared to take a risk on her. Essentially, Agent Dani Rhodes has now joined the team!

To sum it up, I found it refreshing that the FBI didn’t introduce the new character as a solution to an existing problem. Rather, she was portrayed as someone who could strengthen the team even further, creating a positive atmosphere instead of any negative undertones. She wasn’t there to fix a perceived flaw or replace a weak link; instead, her goal is to contribute and make the team even stronger. The upcoming Season 7 doesn’t delay in integrating her, as she features prominently in the promotional material for the next episode.

The upcoming episode of FBI is set to be broadcast on Tuesday, April 8 at 8 p.m. Eastern Time on CBS. Unlike the shows FBI: International and FBI: Most Wanted, which have been cancelled, fans can rest easy knowing that the original series has been renewed for three more seasons, ensuring its continuation through Season 9.
