Celebrities Really Are Just Like Us As Elizabeth Olsen Admits To Borrowing Another Celebrity's Passwords To Watch Her Own Marvel Content

As a die-hard fan of Marvel and Elizabeth Olsen‘s work, it’s both amusing and heartening to learn that even the stars of our favorite franchises share our struggles – like borrowing passwords for streaming services! It’s refreshing to know that even Elizabeth Olsen, who plays one of the key figures in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, has resorted to sharing a friend’s Disney+ account just to catch a sporting event.

It’s a classic conundrum in an age when we are all inundated with the best streaming services: which one of your friend’s passwords can you snag to binge the latest must-watch series or, in this case, your own work? It’s a relatable scenario for many, and as it turns out even stars of past and upcoming Marvel movies have to deal with this reality. In a recent appearance, Elizabeth Olsen treated fans to an unexpectedly relatable moment when she revealed she doesn’t even have her own Disney+ subscription—despite being one of the faces of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

On the podcast “Happy Sad Confused”, host Josh Horowitz questioned Olsen about her feelings towards Kathryn Hahn’s increased role in the upcoming miniseries “Agatha All Along“. The actress from “Wind River” confessed with a chuckle that she doesn’t usually follow her Marvel projects on the well-known streaming service, as one might anticipate. In the video below, she admitted, “I don’t think I even have a Disney+ account.

Later on, Olsen recounted an amusingly familiar tale where she requested Michael Waldron’s login password. The writer, known for creating Loki and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, was the source of this password. It turned out that Olsen required it to gain access to a sporting event on ESPN, which can be viewed with a Disney+ subscription. She confided in the audience about the situation.

I used Michael Waldron’s password to stream a sports event, or so it seemed. [Laughing] I jokingly asked, “Don’t they just hand out passwords like that, right? Aren’t they given for free?” Turns out, he didn’t get one for free.

To the astonishment of many, it turned out that Olsen, a significant character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, didn’t maintain a regular account. However, she did have a free account for a brief one-year span coinciding with the launch of WandaVision. She chuckled intermittently as she added:

They gave me one for free for a year during WandaVision.

One refreshing aspect of this admission is how relatable it feels. In today’s world where streaming services and platform choices are plentiful, sharing passwords among friends and family has become quite common – even though streaming companies typically disapprove of it. From an upcoming Marvel series to a new show on another service, or a highly anticipated game, many viewers frequently exchange login details. It seems that celebrities also occasionally lend a helping hand in the digital sphere.

Yet, this cheerful instance occurs amidst an increasing trend where streaming platforms are intensifying their efforts to restrict password sharing. Notably, Netflix is spearheading these changes by implementing fresh regulations designed to prevent account usage beyond a single household.

Other streaming services might eventually implement similar measures, as Bob Iger, Disney’s CEO, previously hinted at stricter password policies for their platform. This could potentially create some ambiguity regarding shared access. The discussion has led to debates about convenience, the financial burden of numerous subscriptions, and some viewers questioning Netflix’s approach.

The longstanding habit of sharing logins, something that even Olsen has leaned into, may soon be a thing of the past. And then even the Love & Death star will have to get her own account if she wants to enjoy sports and upcoming superhero movies.

Olsen’s password-sharing story might seem minor, but it does make you wonder if Disney will respond to this revelation from one of its top MCU stars. Given her significant role in the franchise, it’ll be interesting to see how the company handles it. Still, if I’m being honest, I think the Scarlet Witch deserves a lifetime Disney+ account. Come on, Iger!
