As a dedicated gamer and avid movie enthusiast, I’ve seen my fair share of complex characters and intriguing storylines. But Channing Tatum‘s role in “Blink Twice” stands out as something truly unique.
Channing Tatum described his preparation for the character in “Blink Twice” as unlike any other role he’s taken on previously.
Actor from “21 Jump Street,” recently shared insights in an interview with Total Film regarding his role in fiancée Zoë Kravitz’s directorial project. He portrays the character of tech billionaire Slater King in this mystery-thriller production.
“This is the first role I’ve ever taken on where I don’t share any affection or bond with the character,” Tatum stated clearly. “In all my previous acting projects, there was always some form of love or relationship involved for me.”
For me, portraying this character was an entirely unique experience. I can’t imagine sharing with anyone the intricacies of the twisted mind I had to conjure up in order to bring him to life on screen. This man is a psychopath.
At a fundraising gala, Slater is introduced to cocktail waitress Frida (Naomi Ackie). Impressed by her, he asks Frida to accompany him and his friends on a dream getaway to his personal island. However, as odd occurrences begin unfolding on the island, Frida becomes uncertain about the authenticity of their surroundings.
Kravitz explained to the magazine that being stuck in an unfamiliar location amplified the dramatic tension in the movie for the characters.
As a gamer, I’d say it felt more about controlling the flow of power between characters. Isolating them in tough situations, like being trapped in a car or hidden in a closet, amplifies the fear. It’s just like in that classic survival story, “Lord of the Flies.” My goal was to create an immersive environment where the characters had no choice but to confront the crumbling power dynamics and figure out their next move.
Blink Twice hits theaters on Aug. 23.
