As a seasoned gamer of movies and life, I must say that the tale of Channing Tatum and Zoë Kravitz’s collaboration on “Blink Twice” is nothing short of extraordinary. I’ve seen many a Hollywood romance bloom (and wilt) on the silver screen, but this duo’s journey from script to screen is something truly unique.
Channing Tatum and Zoë Kravitz are now engaged and working together on a film titled “Blink Twice“, a project that Kravitz directed and Tatum stars in. Interestingly enough, it seems these two actors hadn’t previously met; it was only after Kravitz sent the script to Tatum (which she also co-wrote) that they first connected.
“I hadn’t known Zoë prior to receiving the script from her, as we had never met before. Riley Keough texted me saying, ‘Hey, my friend Zoë wants to send you a script.’ I was thrilled because I admire Zoë as an actress and was eager to work with her. It turned out she wanted to create this project, but I wasn’t aware of it at the time,” Tatum explained during the film’s premiere in Los Angeles on Thursday, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter.
As a seasoned reader with years of experience under my belt, I can attest to the fact that receiving a script titled “Pussy Island” would certainly pique anyone’s curiosity. Having been in the industry for six long years since first receiving this intriguing manuscript, I can say it has been quite the journey.
During the premiere, Tatum gratefully acknowledged Kravitz during her speech, expressing that watching Kravitz direct was truly awe-inspiring. She described Kravitz as an “obsessive person,” but in the most positive sense of the word. It’s not just that Kravitz is meticulous about how things look or how actors perform their roles; her focus extends from the floor to the ceiling, and she never seems to stop thinking and refining. What left Tatum even more amazed was not just her creativity, good taste, acting skills, and ability to direct actors, but rather her relentless pursuit of perfection in every aspect of the production.

“Blink Twice” is a gripping psychological thriller featuring Tatum as Slater King, a tech mogul who encounters cocktail server Frida (Naomi Ackie) at his charity event. He extends an invitation for her to accompany him and his companions on a trip to his secluded island retreat. However, the vacation takes a disturbing turn. The talented ensemble cast includes Adria Arjona, Simon Rex, Alia Shawkat, Haley Joel Osment, Christian Slater, and Genna Davis.
Ackie concurred with Tatum’s compliments towards Kravitz, expressing that they “communicated so effectively that we developed a quick, intuitive rapport,” to such an extent that “when Zoë called ‘Action’ for the first time, it was like we were ready to go, we knew our roles. There was a certainty about us that isn’t always easy to achieve. From the get-go, I felt assured, and that’s not typically the case for me.”
Ackie also mentioned that Kravitz’s ability as a performer made her a great guide for actors. At times, some directors can be challenging to understand due to their unique ways of communicating ideas, but not Kravitz. She had an exceptional knack for clearly conveying exactly what was needed to bring out the best in her team members.
Blink Twice hits theaters on Aug. 23.
