Channing Tatum Touts ‘Roofman’ As “Equal Parts Devastating, Emotional and Somehow Hilarious”

At the Colosseum, Channing Tatum – a celebrated film award-winner over the past ten years at CinemaCon – spoke about his latest movie titled “Roofman” during a presentation on Thursday.

At the closing ceremony of the Big Screen Achievement Awards during the convention, Roofman’s star, Derek Cianfrance, made an appearance during Paramount Pictures’ presentation at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas. Notably, Roofman, scheduled to hit theaters on Oct. 3, is a movie directed by Cianfrance, with him also contributing to the screenplay alongside Kirt Gunn. The original script was penned by David Stephens and Peter Petrucci.

During Paramount Pictures’ presentation at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, Derek Cianfrance, who will receive the honor on the convention’s closing night for the Big Screen Achievement Awards, was present. Roofman, slated for release on Oct. 3, is a film directed by Cianfrance and co-written with Kirt Gunn, following an earlier script written by David Stephens and Peter Petrucci.

Drawing inspiration from real-life events, the movie “Roofman” portrays Tatum as a character who was once an Army ranger and a hard-pressed father. Faced with financial struggles, he resorts to an unconventional method of robbing McDonald’s restaurants by creating openings in their roofs, thus earning the moniker “Roofman.” Post his escape from prison, he attempts to build a fresh life within a toy store, and develops feelings for a single mother and her pair of daughters. However, his questionable past and a decisive burglary pose a significant threat to his prospects of atonement.

Tatum jokingly commented, “Everyone has claimed they have something unique to share with you, but they were deceiving. It’s actually me who has something special to reveal. That film is called Roofman, it’s truly extraordinary.” He complimented Cianfrance as a “one of the more authentic artists,” and admitted that he enjoys saying his name because it makes him feel unique and French. “He’s created this movie that offers an exhilarating journey, packed with parts that are heart-wrenching, emotional, and surprisingly humorous.

In my gaming world, I found myself as Jeffrey Manchester, the rooftop-leaping villain, starting off in a fast-food joint. Greeting the staff with a friendly “Good morning team,” I ushered them into a walk-in freezer, showing a surprising act of kindness by offering a coat to one of the guys before sealing the deal. Later, during my son’s birthday party, the tranquility was shattered as cops stormed our home. In a desperate bid for freedom, I tried to make a run for it, but they eventually managed to apprehend me down the block.

I, a fugitive gamer on the run, make a daring escape from prison, leading me to seek a hidden sanctuary. My secret hideout? A toy store, where I find safety in its labyrinthine ceiling and concealed nooks. From my covert position, I observe employees and the store itself, plotting my next move.

In a moment reminiscent of “Risky Business,” I dance exuberantly through the store in nothing but white boxer briefs. Another instant finds me soaping up, completely nude, until I’m unexpectedly discovered by a store manager, played by Peter Dinklage. The narrative twists further as I develop feelings for a female staff member, portrayed by Kirsten Dunst.

However, the love story takes an abrupt turn, pulling me out of hiding and once again threatening my freedom.

The talented actors Ben Mendelsohn, LaKeith Stanfield, Juno Temple, Melonie Diaz, Uzo Aduba, Lily Collias, and Jimmy O. Yang complete the impressive ensemble cast. This production is a joint venture between Paramount, Miramax, FilmNation Entertainment, and Von Waaden Entertainment. The team behind it includes producers Jamie Patricof, Lynette Howell Taylor, Alex Orlovsky, Duncan Montgomery, and Dylan Sellers. Additionally, Tatum and Cianfrance serve as executive producers alongside Jonathan Glickman, Thom Zadra, Charles M. Barsamian, Jonathan Montepare, Chris Parker, and Tyler Zacharia.

Previously, Cianfrance directed movies like “Blue Valentine” and “The Place Beyond the Pines,” both featuring Ryan Gosling, as well as “The Light Between Oceans” and the miniseries “I Know This Much is True.
