As a long-time Marvel fan who’s been following the X-Men saga since the 90’s animated series, I can’t help but feel a surge of nostalgia and excitement upon seeing Channing Tatum as Gambit in Deadpool & Wolverine. The way he handles those kinetic cards is pure magic!
The Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) has consistently been introducing fresh content on both big screens and streaming platforms like Disney+, with varying levels of achievement. The most recent blockbuster to make its debut is Shawn Levy’s “Deadpool & Wolverine,” which shattered box office records upon release. With such impressive earnings, fans are speculating about the potential impact on future Marvel films. Amidst excitement, Channing Tatum’s Gambit has been granted a bonus Deadpool scene, leaving fans buzzing about his role within the MCU.
Deadpool 3 had a ton of wild cameos, although Channing Tatum as Gambit has perhaps gone the most viral. While some moviegoers are poking fun at Tatum’s accent, others want him back as the fan favorite X-Man. Ryan Reynolds posted a new clip on his Instagram, and some fans think it’s a hint that Tatum’s Gambit will return. Check out the clip for yourself below:

Looks fantastic, doesn’t it? The caption reveals that this is a scene shown on the Time Variance Authority screens within the movie. Moreover, Reynolds hints at Doctor Strange’s portals, sparking speculation among fans about whether this implies Gambit will reappear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
The comments section have already blown up, despite Reynolds’ post only just going up recently. Much of the discussion is fans wondering if this means that Channing Tatum’s Gambit is officially going to be appear again. Some of the most popular comments read:
- WHAT DOES THIS MEANNNNNN
- We love to see Gambit n more new X-Men in MCU❤️
- Please tell me we’re finally getting a Gambit movie 😭
- GAMBITTTTT PLEASEEEEE OMG IM GONNA GO FERAL
- Please tell me this is a tease for something Gambit related! 🙏🏻
It’s unclear whether Ryan Reynolds’ recent post was just for fun or a hint about the MCU’s future, as the studio has been secretive about their live-action plans for the X-Men since Disney took over 20th Century Fox. However, we have seen hints and appearances of mutants in Phases Four and Five.
Channing Tatum’s movie featuring Gambit had been stuck in production limbo for quite some time, only to eventually be abandoned when 20th Century Fox was taken over by Disney. Although his part in Deadpool and Wolverine was minor, Tatum considered it a fulfillment of a long-held dream to portray the beloved character on the big screen. However, whether he gets another chance to play him is yet to be decided.
The emergence of Gambit in Deadpool 3 was twice as thrilling following the character’s storyline in the X-Men ’97 animated series. Given that he met an unfortunate end on Disney+, fans were eagerly anticipating his reappearance, looking forward to seeing him thriving and defeating adversaries with his distinctive kinetic cards. We can only hope for confirmation or denial from Marvel regarding another Tatum portrayal.
Currently, the film featuring Deadpool and Wolverine is still running in cinemas, raking in profits at the box office. Make sure to mark your calendars for the 2025 movie releases to ensure you don’t miss out on next year’s big-screen adventures.
