Chappell Roan Seemingly Teases Release of Long-Awaited Single “The Subway”

Chappell Roan fans rejoice — it seems “The Subway” might finally be here.

In New York City and through what seems like a sneak peek from a fan’s account on social media, the pop star is hinting at the upcoming launch of her new single titled “The Subway.” The 27-year-old artist has performed this song at several music festivals, but so far, she hasn’t officially released a studio version. Interestingly, she played it recently at Primavera Sound last month.

As a fan, I’ve been noticing posters all over New York that read, “Experiencing a breakup? Get bangs!” featuring Roan. The video, which appears to be a studio version of “The Subway,” follows a moving truck labeled “THE SBWY.” As the truck travels along the highway, you can see Roan’s signature red hair fluttering in the wind as it passes a Saskatchewan welcome sign. A sneak peek of the song’s lyrics hints, “I made a promise / if in four months these feelings don’t fade away / well, I’m done with this city / I’m moving to Saskatchewan.

It seems that Roan’s promotional strategy for her new single resembles her approach for “The Giver.” In February, the “Pink Pony Club” singer shared an Instagram post featuring herself in a suit with the caption: “The Lawyer. Your ex’s worst nightmare + she gets the job DONE.” Following this, she posted numerous images portraying herself as a lawyer, as well as a plumber, construction worker, and dentist. Each image conveyed a similar message that Roan was taking on various service jobs and excelling at them.

The Giver,” initially a catchy blend of country and pop with cleverly hidden romantic undertones, stands apart from “The Subway.” Based on previous renditions, “The Subway” appears to be a softer, breakup-themed pop song. This track beautifully demonstrates Roan’s versatile vocal abilities.

More details are not yet known about the song.
