As a seasoned observer of American politics, I must say that Charlamagne tha God‘s appearance on CNN was nothing short of electrifying. His unapologetic stance against Donald Trump’s fascist tendencies and the double standards applied to Kamala Harris by the media was refreshingly honest and much-needed in today’s polarized climate.
Charlamagne tha God was unsparing during his CNN’s AC360 appearance on Thursday night, fiercely criticizing CNN’s coverage of Donald Trump’s questionable statements and apparent fascist leanings, as well as the network’s perceived bias towards Kamala Harris. His heartfelt expression of truth left host Anderson Cooper visibly taken aback.
In a clip that has gone viral on social media, Charlamagne, a popular podcaster and co-host of the nationally syndicated radio show The Breakfast Club, is asked by Cooper about Trump’s plan to appear on the Joe Rogan Experience podcast and whether Harris planned to do the same.
Charlamagne briefly responded, saying he believed it was appropriate for her to continue labeling Donald Trump as a fascist,” or simply, “Charlamagne agreed that it was right for her to keep referring to Trump as a fascist.
He went on to say, “I believe it’s crucial for Americans to closely examine Donald Trump’s rhetoric. It puzzles me why we would consider electing someone who speaks about confining people in camps. I can’t fathom why we’re even discussing electing someone who advocates mass deportation. I find it hard to understand why we’re having a conversation about someone who wants to abolish the constitution to overturn election results. Don’t we pride ourselves on being a nation that values its Constitution? Aren’t we supposed to be a patriotic country? Yet, when Colin Kaepernick kneels in protest here, people label it as unpatriotic. But if someone says they want to abolish the constitution to overturn election results, there seems to be no concern?
To Cooper, Charlamagne, you’re referring to Kamala Harris and Joe Rogan, mentioned by Anderson. But who cares about that topic?
Despite Cooper’s apparent shock, he attempted to redirect the discussion towards the relevance of Trump’s podcast appearance on Joe Rogan’s show in relation to the election. However, Charlamagne was unyielding. “We’re discussing whether a president can be considered a fascist,” said Charlamagne, “a person who advocates for imprisoning people in camps, overthrowing the constitution through an election’s results manipulation, and jailing political opponents. Is that kind of rhetoric not concerning to people?
Charlamagne spoke about Trump’s recurring inflammatory remarks and hostile actions towards adversaries, which Trump calls “the enemy within,” as well as his ongoing admiration for authoritarian leaders at rallies and in interviews. In an interview with the New York Times, John Kelly, who served as Trump’s longest-held chief of staff and is a retired Marine general, stated that, based on his personal experience and observations, Trump fits the description of a “fascist.
Regarding the interview, Cooper attempted to assert that CNN did indeed address Trump’s harmful speech. However, Charlamagne countered by saying he felt there weren’t enough discussions on this topic. “I have the impression,” said Charlamange, “that I heard more about ‘is Kamala Harris Black?’ here than about Trump being a fascist. Am I mistaken?
Cooper responded, “I must disagree with you strongly. As a big admirer of your work, it’s disappointing to hear such a conversation being suggested about Kamala Harris’ ethnicity.
Come on, Anderson, I can’t help but feel skeptical when you claim there are no such discussions happening behind the scenes,” I shared, trying to express my doubt.
Later, Cooper made an effort to clarify that while some individuals, perhaps overzealous or misinformed, might have brought up questions about Harris’ ethnicity during senseless CNN debates, the network generally strives to present diverse perspectives as they engage in meaningful discussions.
Charlamagne stated, “I believe no media outlet has been truthful regarding Donald Trump. Since 2016, there haven’t been honest discussions about Donald Trump. Last night, they were discussing the inconsistency in how he’s treated compared to the vice president. However, this inconsistency is always present, whether it’s with Hillary Clinton or Joe Biden. Now, when it comes to Kamala Harris, they talk about Trump being a danger to democracy, but they don’t act as if he truly is.
It appears that CNN is finally acknowledging the inconsistency in their coverage of Trump versus Harris. During CNN’s town hall with Harris on Wednesday, anchor Jake Tapper had an unexpected insight on air when he commented, “It seems intriguing that we, as media, are now assessing Vice President Harris like any other politician, scrutinizing her responses and discussing how she might have expressed herself differently in certain situations.
Currently, the Republican candidate is expressing views that label liberals as internal adversaries, even suggesting military action against them. His supporters argue that he’s referring to illegal immigrants or violent street groups, but the candidate himself clarifies that he means targeting figures like Pelosi, Schiff, and Democrats. Essentially, these political campaigns seem to be operating in distinct realms of understanding.
