As someone who grew up in the era of dial-up internet and has seen technology evolve at an unprecedented pace, I wholeheartedly agree with Charlamagne tha God‘s insights about the impact of the digital world on our society, particularly on young people.
As a dedicated gamer, I found myself echoing Charlamagne tha God’s sentiments when he took aim at the internet for fueling divisions among us, the American people, on a Thursday.
“Look, this is a divided country. We’re polarized, and it’s getting in the way of really talking to one another. But you know what else is getting in the way? The internet, OK, and particularly the way the internet works right now,” the media mogul said at a Project Liberty conference while moderating a discussion titled “At a Digital Crossroads: Bipartisan Tech Solutions to Unite a Nation.”
Charlamagne stated that one factor contributing to our lack of face-to-face communication is the internet. He pointed out the way large platforms manage it, manipulating content and gathering data without compensating most users, but he also noted that many people are becoming aware of this situation.
He highlighted specific issues related to the internet that might affect younger users. “For me,” he said, “the main concern about the internet revolves around its influence on children. I believe that children aren’t developing crucial skills, and I question whether a young brain is equipped to handle such a vast number of people at once when they are so young.” He expressed this viewpoint.
As a passionate observer, I find myself expressing my concerns over the rising trend among youth towards social media platforms such as TikTok and Instagram. These digital spaces, while offering countless opportunities for self-expression, also pose significant threats to privacy, making users vulnerable to online frauds, scams, and abuse.
During a conversation between U.S. House Representatives Nancy Mace and Ro Khanna, Charlamagne emphasized that Americans cherish their liberties. However, he expressed concern about the potential risks of the internet to young users, stating, “I’m not sure we fully grasp the damage the internet may be inflicting on us.
