As a fan who’s been following Charli XCX’s journey from the pop scene to Hollywood, I can confidently say that she’s not just cooking up a storm in the music industry, but she’s also whipping up a Hollywood storm!
In her world, it’s Charli XCX who reigns supreme, with everyone else simply following along. Not only was she recently nominated for an impressive seven Grammy nominations for her album “Brat,” contending for Album of the Year among other categories, but the pop sensation is also attracting significant attention in Hollywood. According to Deadline, Charli XCX will be joining the cast of “The Gallerist,” a highly anticipated film starring Natalie Portman and Jenna Ortega, with filming set to commence towards the end of this year.
The storyline will revolve around a frantic art gallery owner who devises an unusual plan to sell a corpse at a renowned art institution. Although the actor for the main character hasn’t been announced yet, the rest of the talented cast is confirmed, including Da’Vine Joy Randolph (who won last year’s Best Supporting Actress Oscar for The Holdovers), Sterling K. Brown (known for American Fiction and This Is Us), Zach Galifianakis (famous for Only Murders in the Building and The Hangover), Daniel Brühl (recognized from Captain America: Civil War and Inglourious Basterds), and Catherine Zeta-Jones (popular from Wednesday and Chicago).
In a new movie project, Cathy Yan serves as the director. She previously worked on “Birds of Prey and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn.” The script for this film was written by James Pedersen, known for his work on the 2022 action comedy “High Heat,” featuring Olga Kurylenko and Don Johnson. Currently, there is no announced release date for this production.
Charli XCX’s Star Just Keeps Getting Brighter
Charli has previously taken on two acting gigs, lending her voice to The Angry Birds Movie and UglyDolls, and she just hosted Saturday Night Live, showcasing her comedic talent in various roles. Notably, she was featured in the widely recognized “Domingo” sketch, performing a revised rendition of Chappell Roan’s “HOT TO GO!”.
Apart from her current role, she’s also slated to be part of six additional ventures: “Erupcja,” meaning “eruption” in Polish and focusing on two women with a volatile relationship; “100 Nights of Hero,” featuring Emma Corrin and Maika Monroe; the TV series “Overcompensating,” centering around a young football player grappling with his sexual identity; “I Want Your Sex,” Greg Arraki’s new movie, co-starring Olivia Wilde and Daveed Diggs; “Sacrifice,” an action comedy boasting another impressive ensemble, including Anya Taylor-Joy, Chris Evans, Salma Hayek, and John Malkovich; lastly, a remake of the chilling horror mockumentary “Faces of Death,” where a content moderator uncovers a collection of gruesome videos.
Apart from numerous Grammy nominations, Brat has garnered a multitude of honors and managed to secure the top spot on various “best of the year” lists, such as Rolling Stone, Billboard, Entertainment Weekly, The New York Times, NME, Stereogum, The Washington Post, and many more.
