Charli XCX Is “Happy to Help to Prevent Democracy From Failing Forever” With Kamala Harris ‘Brat’ Meme

As a seasoned gamer and music enthusiast with a penchant for pop culture, I find myself utterly captivated by the intriguing tale of Charli XCX and her unexpected brush with political stardom. Being a non-American citizen myself, I can’t cast my vote in this election, but I’ve been following it closely, and Charli’s story is one that resonates deeply.

Charli XCX, with some reservation, finds herself caught up in the viral sensation stirred by her tweet calling Kamala Harris a “brat” amidst this year’s presidential race.

In a feature article for New York Magazine, the popular singer was questioned regarding her contentious social media post concerning the Vice President. She clarified that she composed it while lounging by her swimming pool in Los Angeles, not giving it much thought as a political endorsement, but rather as a “positive and casual” message to celebrate the new presidential nominee.

Nevertheless, the British singer’s endorsement of Harris influenced her album, titled “Brat” – a summer hit due to its “no worries” vibe, popular remixes featuring stars, and eye-catching green cover art. This album was subsequently adopted by Harris’ political campaign and transformed into a meme. Now, discussions about Harris’ “bratty” behavior are prevalent on CNN, Fox News, and even Bill Maher commented, comparing Harris’ brashness to that of Trump. However, it’s worth noting that while Charli possesses properties in the U.S., she is not a citizen and therefore cannot vote in this election.

“Supporting Harris in the election because she stands on the correct side of democracy and women’s rights is something deeply important to Charli,” she expressed. “I’m more than willing to assist in ensuring that our democracy never falters for good.” (Paraphrased)

She said, “I didn’t expect my conversation about being messy, partying, needing a Bic lighter and a pack of Marlboro Lights to make headlines on CNN. That’s not what I anticipated.” Charli explained that while she wants to express her political views, she doesn’t aspire to be a politically-focused artist. She added, “I’m not like Bob Dylan, and I never claimed to be.”

“Whatever I experience in life, whether it’s what I say, what I wear, or what I appreciate, ultimately influences and contributes to my artistic work,” Charli explained. “However, politics doesn’t resonate with or inspire my art.”

Although the hype surrounding “Brat summer” has subsided, Harris’ campaign has persisted in incorporating “Brat” into her branding, notably during the DNC. Senator Cory Booker donned a cap that read “NJ is Brat,” while Mindy Kaling asserted that Nancy Pelosi had been embodying “Brat” before “Brat” even existed. Additionally, attendees at the DNC were spotted in slime green shirts.
