56-year-old actor Julian McMahon, well-liked by fans for his iconic performances in the initial Charmed series on The WB and the early 2000s installments of Fantastic Four movies, has sadly passed away.
As reported by Deadline, McMahon died on July 2 in Clearwater, Florida, after a quiet struggle with cancer.
In a heartfelt message, Kelly McMahon, wife of the late Julian McMahon, announced that he passed away peacefully this week following his courageous battle with cancer. ‘Julian cherished every moment of life,’ she said, ‘he adored his family, friends, colleagues, and fans. His greatest aspiration was to spread joy to as many people as possible.’ At present, the family requests privacy during their time of mourning. May those whose lives Julian touched continue to find happiness in life. We are thankful for the memories we shared.
Fans of the genre may have first encountered McMahon on The WB’s enchanting fantasy series “Charmed“, now available in its entirety on Peacock. There, he portrayed the character Cole Turner, who was half-demon and half-human across seasons 3 to 5, and made a guest appearance during Season 7. Initially positioned as an adversary for the Charmed sisters, he eventually developed feelings for one of them, switching from antagonist to ally (and sometimes back to foe – remember, this is a genre show).
In addition to his time on “Charmed”, McMahon portrayed the original big-screen character Doctor Doom in the 2005 “Fantastic Four” movie and reappeared in the role for the sequel, “Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer”, released in 2007. Despite the two “Fantastic Four” films receiving a mixed reception critically, there’s no question that McMahon delivered an impressive performance as Victor Von Doom.
In genres other than his usual, McMahon also had a significant career in the world of soap operas. He appeared in popular series like Nip/Tuck, FBI: Most Wanted, and more.
