Chhaava: Divya Dutta defends co-actor Rashmika Mandanna amid criticism; ‘Let’s not forget that she…’

Vicky Kaushal’s movie, titled Chhaava, has been receiving tremendous acclaim from viewers since its release. Yet, Rashmika Mandanna‘s portrayal of Maharani Yesuai Bhonsale in the film has drawn some criticism. Nevertheless, actress Divya Dutta came to her defense, pointing out that “We should remember she has produced several successful films, which indicates she possesses a quality that connects with the audience.

In an interview with India Today Digital, Divya Dutta, who plays Rajmata Soyrabai Bhosale in the historical drama, praised Rashmika Mandanna for her exceptional acting skills. She also recognized Rashmika’s talent for consistently producing successful films.

Dutta expressed her affection for Rashmika Mandanna, even though they didn’t act together in Chhaava. Dutta praised Mandanna as a gifted actress, emphasizing that her expressive, eye-catching eyes, especially in specific scenes, were exceptionally alluring.

It’s clear that Mandanna consistently produces successful films, demonstrating a powerful bond with her audience. Furthermore, Dutta highlighted that from her perspective, Mandanna is a diligent and genuinely warm-hearted individual, expressing her personal affection for her.

The actor added that different viewpoints on the matter exist, as some spectators felt she deserved more screen time, whereas others were glad to see her featured in the movie.

She stressed that Rashmika Mandanna and herself delivered outstanding performances, just like everyone else in the cast, and now it’s all about seeing how the audience reacts. Ultimately, she pointed out, the film’s success is what truly counts, given its status as one of the biggest hits this year—a reason to rejoice indeed.

The story revolves around Sambhaji, the son of Shivaji Maharaj, who takes the throne and endeavors to carry out his father’s dream of self-rule (Swarajya), while confronting the Mughal empire under Aurangzeb’s leadership. Notably, Yesubai, Sambhaji’s wife, plays a crucial role in administering and protecting the Maratha kingdom during his absences.

Under Laxman Utekar’s direction, this film showcases key performances by actors including Vicky Kaushal, Akshaye Khanna, Ashutosh Rana, and Vineet Kumar. In its first eight days since debuting, Chhaava has raked in approximately Rs 228 crore at the box office.
