The upcoming movie “Chhaava,” featuring Vicky Kaushal and Rashmika Mandanna, is generating quite a buzz among viewers. Before its release in theaters, it has been reported that the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) made some adjustments. Among these changes were muting certain words such as ‘haramz*ada.’
As a lifestyle expert, I recently discovered some intriguing behind-the-scenes changes in Chhaava’s production process, as detailed in a recent Bollywood Hungama report. The intense dialogue, originally ‘Mughal sultanat ka zehar’ or the Mughal empire’s poison, was creatively rephrased to better suit the context, resulting in the revised line: “At that time, many rulers and empires were striving to maintain their existence, rather than being referred to as a poison.” This subtle alteration adds depth and historical accuracy to the film.
In response to your request,
“It’s Mughal blood in the end.”
And, as you suggested,
“It’s Aurangzeb’s blood.
In addition to the conversations, the terms ‘haramz*adon’ and ‘haramz*ada’ have been silenced, while ‘Aameen’ has been changed to ‘Jai Bhavani.’ Other adjustments include ’16 saal (years)’ becoming ’14 saal,’ ’22 saal ka ladka (years old boy)’ transforming into ’24 saal ka ladka,’ and ‘9 saal’ being modified to ‘kayi saal.’
As per the report, the CBFC requested the filmmakers to delete a scene depicting Maratha warriors wearing sarees. Additionally, they were asked to add an audio-visual disclaimer explaining the source material of the movie and clarifying that its purpose was not to tarnish anyone’s reputation or present false historical information.
On February 1, 2025, as per the CBFC website, the movie Chhaava was granted certification. It received a ‘UA 16+’ rating, indicating it’s suitable for viewers aged 16 and above. The certified runtime is 161 minutes and 50 seconds, which translates to 2 hours, 41 minutes, and 50 seconds.
In a historical drama, Laxman Utekar directs the story of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, son of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, which is set to premiere on Valentine’s Day in 2025. Joining Vicky Kaushal, Rashmika Mandanna, and Akshaye Khanna are Ashutosh Rana, Divya Dutta, Vineet Kumar Singh, Diana Penty, and Santosh Juvekar as part of the cast.
