Chhorii 2: Nushrratt Bharuccha on 4-year gap between first and second part of horror film franchise; ‘Break allowed me…’

Discussing the upcoming sequel to last year’s horror sensation Chhorii, which hits screens on April 11, actress Nushrratt Bharuccha and director Vishal Furia have shared intriguing tidbits about the movie. In an interview with ANI, Bharuccha spoke about the gap between the two films, stating that the four-year interval provided her with ample room to grow personally and professionally, as well as offering a well-deserved rest.

Nushrratt Bharuccha pointed out the importance of taking a break, explaining how the four-year gap between the two movies worked to her advantage. If the sequel had come right after the original film, she noted, it could have been too much for her to handle at once.

Taking a break opened up opportunities for her to delve into less serious characters, a shift that ultimately aided her in emotionally separating herself from the character of Chhorii. As she explained, this kind of emotional distance can occasionally provide unforeseen benefits.

Bharuccha expressed, “There’s a great sense of satisfaction when you perform and see the audience responding positively. It’s as if I’ve accomplished something significant, so I can’t help but give myself a little praise.

In response to questions regarding constructing a Chhorii Universe, director Vishal Furia expressed uncertainty about developing a full-fledged universe but expressed optimism that the narrative will extend past the second movie.

Furia shared that while nothing has been penned down as of now, there are several ideas floating around in his mind. Moreover, if Chhorii 2 gains favorable responses from the audience, it might pave the way for a third installment. With this optimism, the team is planning to present the sequel to the viewers.

This past week, I had the privilege of witnessing the premiere of the official trailer for Chhorii 2. The story, skillfully narrated by Nushrratt Bharuccha’s character to her daughter, carries a chilling and poignant tone from the get-go. In this narrative, a wrathful king, displeased by the birth of a girl, orders one of his servants to terminate the child’s life.

Under the direction of Vishal Furia once more, who was also at the helm for the initial film, the sequel features Soha Ali Khan, Gashmeer Mahajani, Saurabh Goyal, Pallavi Ajay, Kuldeep Sareen, and Hardika Sharma in prominent roles.

The movie will make its worldwide debut on April 11, 2025, with production companies including T-Series, Abundantia Entertainment, Psych, and Tamarisk Lane Productions.
